I've got Maiden on Tuesday
GBH on December 23rd
I would go see Bad Manners with The Ruts on the 28th but I can't afford it
and
the Academy In The Uk punk fest with Stiff Little Fingers headlining in May.

Last concert was Rancid, they had a terrible street punk band called the Unseen on first, but then GBH came on and it was amaaazing and Rancid played a tight set too.

Best gig ever was Flogging Molly the 2nd time I saw them, went with like 10 friends and danced all night. Best thing ever.

Not sure what my next is, but my last was a bunch of Ska bands like The Toasters. The one before that had more famous bands, like Reel Big Fish, MxPx, Streetlight Manifesto and some others. The one before that was Coldplay.

Im hoping to see the Shins when they come on tour next year.

Yeah, I've been to the Birmingham Academy. They are really sweet venues and I prefer them to the Arena's.

I was so sick to miss GBH the other night, seen as they are the greatest thing to ever come from Birmingham and their Christmas show is so much fun, but they do it every year, so meh, I'll go next year. And I saw them last month anyway.

I'm saving for Academy In The UK, if you live anywhere near Birmingham you should go, it lasts 10 hours with like 10 bands, a Ramones tribute, and then it's headlined by Stiff Little Fingers, the best 77 punk band.

I live so close to the brixton acadamy and some great bands play there but usealy under 14 you have to go with an adult and sit.

Ah but dude, you have to start somewhere. If I hadn't of liked them I wouldn't of trawled around looking for other bands, wouldn't of gone to my local shows and just would of generally thought screamo was turd based on that one band. It's the way peoples minds work. If you don't like something, you wont go looking for something similar.

Drop dead,gorgeous arnt screamo?
I'm sorry but that is the stupidest comment i've heard throughout my time on habbox forum. The pure fact that they scream makes them screamo- or maybe them screaming must of messed up your perception of what is and isn't screamo. Have you even listened to them?

I don't mind them as a band, but they aren't screamo.

But when a majority of the song is actually screaming, and most of the songs follow the same pattern it is generally screamo. genres like metalcore are basically screamo (Bring me the Horizon)

There are so many bands I would love to see. There are a lot of albums coming out this year, and I doubt my parents will take me to all of them, but I need to go to at least a few. I would kill to see Radiohead, The Shins, Foo Fighters (if their next album is decent) and Modest Mouse. Clap Your Hands Say Yeah would be cool, same with Arcade Fire.

But so far none of them have set tour dates for my area.

I'd disagree, if you take some of the screamo bands like Ampere, Orchid and Neil Perry they are very differnt to metalcore, they are a lot closer to punk than metal. I see screamo as an offshoot of hardcore punk, whereas metalcore is an offshoot of metal with screaming. I see where you're coming from but I don't really agree; having said that I don't know that much metalcore, just the popular ones, but from what I've heard metalcore isn't much like screamo (a genre I know quite a lot about).

PaintYourTarget

Then again, the Genre's evolve. Screamo is now bands like Drop Dead, Gorgeous, PenKnifeLoveLife and groups who using screaming as main vocals.
Bands who use it as backup vocals, such as Fightstar and Funeral for a Friend are no where near screamo though.

I would say screamo is anything like punk, and i know some 35-45 year old men (my dad, his brother and his friends) who were punks who would disagree too. Punk the genre didn't have much screaming in did it really? the singing was 'casual' (like there wasn't any attempt at trying to sing, it was how you wanted to) and the guitars were way different. I've noticed screamo/metalcore bands play (im not a guitar specialist, so please refrain from quoting me in the next sentances) like hard, crazy riffs which seem to be made up on the spot, whereas punk had more of a tune behind it. But i am not a punk genre specialist, i could get my dads opinion and he would certainly tell you what he thinks.

The point is your dad was into 77punk, the hardcore punk of the 80s was what started screamo, which was like punk but more melodic and with screaming. Their is some distortion on what and what isn't screamo these days and our definitions are very different, I still consider screamo to be an offshoot of hardcore punk, whereas your listening to the offshoot from metal stuff which has been (wrongly, imo) given the screamo tag. Before you tell me screamo has evolved to that stage, I'm going to tell you screamo as a punk offshoot is more alive now than ever. I'd be very glad to discuss this with your dad, this would make for some interesting conversation, but you ask him about hardcore punk (Black Flag, Minor Threat, Circle Jerks, Dead Kennedys, Descendents and GBH etc) as that's the genre that spawned the screamo scene, however screamo came around as an underground thing in the early 90's so I'm guessing your dad's active collaboration with the punk scene would have disentgrated a bit by then?
Either way I'm up for discussing this with you further.

Btw, if you're confused as to where I'm coming from on this I could write out a brief history on the term screamo if you wanted me to?

But going back to what you said about punk vocals, you contradicted yourself there, you said it was sing however you want to, which was and still is the main cornerstone of punk, that you make it your own and do it in your own individual way, so many bands felt screaming had a place in punk and so yes, there are plenty of punk bands that use screaming, obviously they aren't remembered as well as the radio-friendly bands like Buzz****s, Ramones or Sex Pistols, but it existed in the original 77 scene, the later 80's hardcore scene and finally in the screamo scene itself.

If your dad hasn't heard of this it may be because it was generally an underground craze in America.

But like I said, up for discussion about it anytime.

I got burned;]
But drop dead, gorgeous are screamo (hahaha)
my point was that screamo didn't originate from the original and proper punk of the 70's. ;]
The real punk was english;]!

Actually punk started in the US, but whatevs.
For further reference plz don't call certain eras in punk 'proper' punk or 'true' punk, coz it makes it seem like punk died at the end of the 70's, when it's just as active today.

You should probably read the post ya know.
Coz screamo as a punk offshoot is;
a) very recent
b) still alive, more so than ever

go listen to Ampere, i wrote haukus in your yearbook about cannibalism and The Murder Of Rosa Luxemburg.

No, I've tried to listen to you throughtout this thread and it's just come across as that you read a website, got a few band names and now spurting it off for attention/wanting to look more scene than everyone. You haven't pulled your head out of your own *** at all to even consider other peoples opinions and are so convinced you are right. Get over yourself.

Actually I have, I admitted there are 2 meanings of screamo these days.
That people's main perception of it has changed.
But that I don't feel that what most people now think is screamo is actually screamo, just metalcore.
That's an opinion.
I'm entitled to one.
Or at least I think I am.
Clarify?

So yeah, sorry for recommending people some music from a genre they probably haven't heard, I guess because that music isn't cool at the moment you couldn't possibly like it, I mean if it isn't what the whole crowd loves then **** I ain't touching it either! You can stick to your definition of screamo, which is pretty much talentless groups of pretty boys attempting to be hXc, but whatevs. Srsly, did you first hear the term 'emo' when Charlie Simpson left Busted. Tbh, I don't like people randomly starting an argument with me on no grounds, I had a decent discussion with another guy (Kyle?) and we sorted out what we both thought. So yeah if you wanna talk music with me try a decent mature conversation coz tbh you're an ***.

Yeah, thats MY job.

Just in my opinion: Punk, Emo, and anything related are pretty much impossible to define. I'd stop trying.

K i don't want to get into much of an arguement again, but i think we need to point some things out

-Lee has been into the emo scene for a long time, not since fightstar;]
- hXc- no, just no;]
-calling him an !?$ (see what i did there with my self censoring) i don't think thats on, and any other slandering terms anyone uses (unless they deserve to be called one)

I have noticed though your knowledge does seem abit, wikipedia-ish can i say? I don't want to get into an arguement, but i'm entitled to an opinion, just like you

That's an opinion.

FINAL NOTE about screamo coming from punk- i can't think of any band who can say they weren't influenced by one of the great punk bands, any who say they weren't are crazy (unless they're like underoath who are only influenced by god ;])

Yeah, I was first introduced to Emo a few years back by a bunch of skaters who relentlessly took the **** out of it. Going out to check out the music and actually liking it is really following the crowd, eh?
If I was following the crowd, then I'd be listening to RnB, grime and alot of other non-rock based genres which the large percentage of people I know listen to.
I was going on the grounds that in my opinion, you're stuck up and not willing to accept any other peoples opinions. I got that all by myself and people agreed with me. Why do we have do follow your genre classes?
Screamo has changed to involve these current bands. That's how society works, it moves on. Same applies to music.

My view is there is two screamos, one didn't evolve into the other, they are completely different.

My view is that one is good and one is bad.

If you couldn't pick that up then dude you need to really read my posts better.

I'd disagree, if you take some of the screamo bands like Ampere, Orchid and Neil Perry they are very differnt to metalcore, they are a lot closer to punk than metal. I see screamo as an offshoot of hardcore punk, whereas metalcore is an offshoot of metal with screaming. I see where you're coming from but I don't really agree;

Just reread (as in read again, if that makes it easier for you to understand?) your posts, and that's the closest you come to saying there's 2 types. Ultimately, that post agrees that Drop Dead, Gorgeous are screamo and that you were originally wrong?

I'm saying there's two meanings of screamo around.
One of which I don't consider screamo.
DDG go into that category.
This is my opinion.

I don't understand the concept of rereading, plz explain.

This is called opinion.
But currently, what a lot of people have been arguing is the most popular meaning and will be considered right by a far greater population of people who spend time listening to music, not discovering it's history to be technically right in arguements.

This isn't about the history though.
I see where you're coming from, but I don't consider this new screamo genre to be a progression on the old one, or a new era or anything.

a) it hasn't really come from it, screamo is just a nice title to put on music
b) it may have been added as it rhymes with 'emo'
c) i don't consider it a new era because the 'old era' is still 100% active.

discuss?

'Era' was just a word I used to describe it (wrongly). I meant it was like, a new branch or offspring or something. But I haven't noticed the punk influenced branch as much.
I think the Emo Screamo (as I shall now affectionately refer to it) took aspects from both Screamo and emo.

Well, if I'm allowed that (http://www.mesaverde.co.uk/mp3/)is a site with free mp3s from the many waves of emo (as in my emo) and screamo (same, again). Check it out, hope you like it.
