Okay so i was reading the newspaper today when i read about the outrage at modonnas new coat. The £35,000 coat made purely from rodants skin (ie chinchillas), was thought to be made of more than 40 of the species. Animal welfare are outraged at the thought, and madonna is thinking about improving her security guards, as she is in fear of attacks. What do you think about this? Discuss..

Up to her what shes wears at the end of the day, and there is nothing you can do to stop her really unless she was naked or something.

The fact that the coat is actually ugly itself doesn't seem to bother her, just like the fact a massive amount of animals were killed for the production of it.

I personally feel this is sick and completely shows a terrible attitude and example for her younger generation of fans who look up to her. For a woman of her status and age to come out and make such a bold statement, clearly shows she supports the use of fur to produce clothes - and her opinion will likely to be passed on to her followers.

Madonna has recently, in my opinion, made a number of bad decisions and this is just another to add to the list, that has brought my respect and appreciation for her to an all-time low.

i personally would never wear fur, but guys come on, it's no worse than eating animals.
so unless you're a vegan, i suggest you don't post

'OMGZ DA POOR DEFENCELESS ANIMALLLZZ!'

but yes, the coat does look terrible, as does most fur. tacky.

I think it looks nice, but then I love all fur coats, especially that gorilla one that Pete Burns had in the BB House this year, if you've seen 101 Dalmations, Cruella De Vil has some wonderful fur coats, obviously they're not real (of what I assume), but they're based on real coats. To be honest, I don't really mind if animals are being killed for fur, in porportion of their population, it's not that much, especially with chinchillas. If perhaps Madonna was wearing a fur coat made out of Giant Panda's or Bengal tigers, then I wouldn't support it much.

I like Beyonce's chinchilla coat as well :P
They're cute animals.. but make nice coats.

Im actually more of a liberal on this issue

I think it is wrong, no matter how many of the population there are. Eating animals doesnt compare because that actually benifits the user. Fur clothing is stone age stuff, we have technology now, there's no need for it. Hell, they're making clothes out of the same stuff those temperpetic matresses are made out of now.

Not to mention much of the methods of capturing and killing these animals are illegal.

:O DON'T DARE.

</3 I HAVE A DALMATION! LOL.

I disagree to be honest. Fair enough we do eat animals, but that is basically natural instinct and, in my opinion, morally correct and justified as it's simply the circle of life. However, I fail to remember "killing animals for their fur" as being part of the cycle..?

There are plenty of prosthetic methods available now, and if you go to basically any high street shop you can get fake fur whether it be on coats or whatever. There are plenty of alternatives that give of the exact same effect (and in this case probably look better) but also protect animals.

If you were aware of the methods they use to kill the animals as well, I don't think youd be as eager to support them. It's not a case of gently putting them to sleep, some of them are brutally killed after a treacherous and horrendous upbringing, and some are bred simply to be gassed to death. In some cases, I've actually seen dogs been hung upside down and having their skin sliced off them there and then - in front of a crowd of people.

It's a sickening and disgusting process in general and I simply feel it's completely un necessesary to take a number of animals lives, simply to promote some pop diva who's beyond it and should be in a home by now instead of skipping the normal adoption system to make a statement.

Whatever madonna wants she seems to think she can get, and seems pretty naive about the whole situation. I think she needs to realise her decisions and actions as an icon of thousands - if not millions - of people effecs more than just herself.

Don't know what a chinchilla is, but I expect it to be cute :}, so it's mean, I'm fully against animal cruelty, and I think it's duscusting how they wear it's fur for a fashion item, we dont' wear human skin for a fashion accesory do we?

EDIT: OMGG, I just found out what a chinchilla is, look at it :}, how could you kill that for a coat :{

I don't agree with killing animals at all (I'm vegan)
I bet if she had to watch those animals being smacked on the floor, trodden on and skinned alive then thrown onto a pile of other skinless bleeding animals whilst they were still alive, she wouldn't wear it. -.-

Lol we arn't trying to put a stop to it, but we are simply discussing the fact that we were that this day in age it is out of order and morally wrong for anyone to wear real fur - especially someone of Madonna's status.

Lol well if you think that's nice fair enough, but to be quite frank I think it's actually an extremely disusting looking jacket which wasted many sacred animals lives just to try and make her look better - which obviously failed.

Madonna is a bit of a 'has been' in my opinion, and needs to stop with all these contraversial stunts to try and get herself some publicity and keep herself going. Shes like 50 or something for goodness sake.

My personal belief is that animals are actually lower forms of life, and that they don't feel pain in the same way we do (they clearly feel something as they react, but I believe that to be simple reflexes and instinct rather than an ability to register something as harmful). That's why I'm not bothered by the fur/meat/hunting industries.

For those of you who say using animal fur is exactly the same as eating meat, well you're wrong on my account. Eating meat is just part of the foodchain tbh, but yes, I do agree that killing animals for their fur is going overboard.

Besides, it looks awful on Madonna. Ew.

I agree, theres differences. Eating meat is natural, as its part of every food chain. But wearing a dead animal? Thats just, ew.

Why is it no one acts in outrage when they see someone wearing leather, leather items etc?

I personally don't see the problem, i'd only have a problem with it if i KNEW that the animal's were treated inhumanely and then it'd be wrong. As Chaz said at least it's not being made and left unoccupied?

But the coat is extremely tacky and not too nice! I guess it's value is all that matters.

Janeisntpleased
09-12-2006, 06:05 PM
the fact is that most of you agree with killing and eating an animal, yet you disagree with taking it's fur? why? it just doesn't seem logical to me.

eating meat may be 'the circle of life' but it isn't a necessity in our diet. if you really felt strongly on the issue you simply wouldn't eat meat. there are other sources of protein etc in the world.

and as the above says, i bet most of you own a pair of leather shoes, but no one makes a fuss about that, do they.

also, you're all ranting on about how it's cruel the way they are killed for their fur, but think of how animals were treated and killed by mcdonalds, kfc etc and the majority of you still eat their products.

ps. i'm not saying wearing fur is right, i would personally never wear it myself, i'm just pointing out the facts.

I don't think animal abuse is a good idea, it doesn't exactly appeal to me. I simply don't believe that animals feel pain in the same way we do. If your post was serious then I think you really need to learn something about ... well, anything.

It "doesn't give a crap what happens to it's skin" because it's dead?

Erm, I think your failing to realise the innocent animals are bread and then killed simply for their skin. I feel it's absoloutley disgusting, and don't understand how anyone can condone breeding an animal simply to kill it in an inhuman way, and then slice it's skin off of it.

Plus warmth possibly. Humans are naked creatures, we need to use some lower level creature to keep us alive. It is why we eat for one thing, vegetables and other green things won't give you proper nourishment.

It is a bit wrong I suppose, but a Chinchilla will hardly know what is happening, they aren't as sophisticated as us humans.

Perhaps being shot is a bit extreme, but I agree - I do not think she should get away with wearing it. It's bad enough if a normal person wore fur, but someone as idolised and famous as herself - I feel - is completely out of order. She is setting an example to several of her fans.

Put it this way, if Christina wore real fur I would be just as disguted with her! xD
