Problem with recolouring

I saved my furni as a .bmp opened in paint and whatever i do to it the for colours is either black yellow or white. I tried making da bit i wanted ot cheange white first but it kept happening. Is it cause i saved as a bitmap?

Same thing happened to me, I just copied and pasted into a new window
