If you look closely, it's a cigarette with smoke coming out of it :)

There's nothing to show the change between hood and cap, perhaps add a different coloured peak or a darker line underneath the hood to show it's ontop of the cap.

And ignore the guy who said it was a stereotype, bowing to political correctness takes the fun and identity out of people.
