The PSP has brilliant graphics, but graphics isnt everything.
The amazing ideas of nintendo beat the psp by a long shot.
The psp is not original, its a game console with things added to it,
Where as nintendo are inventing wonderful new ways of play.

This doesnt mean that i dislike the PSP, but in my eyes the ds is the better of the two.
I'll definetley be getting both, I already have the ds. :)

And have you noticed the very top picture?
On the bottom screen of the ds is a steering wheel, you ACTUALLY use it to play the game! :D

The DS has to screens, one is a touch screen which is obviously going to be cool for the teens and kids of today, the PSP looks alot like a Car Navigator or a DVD player and isnt very creative

Ok Look , I know the Dual Screen is revolutionary and will attract kids like ages 7-10, but the PSP is more "hip" and and has way better graphics and face it, more funner games. I recently got one and it out-does the DS by far.

PSP have been owned due to the DS being released before the PSP, and percides, its a gimmik of the PS2, nothing different, but DS is packed with new features compared to consols, like touch screen, mic, 2 screens.
But psp just have the fact that they have video/pic/mp3 but DS is getting all that,
PSP has discs which = LOADING!!!
DS= small card = no loading at all
PSP had memory cards meaning you'll have to buy new ones every now and then, which will be like £20

also, The PSP was faulty, the square button broke, they set on fire due to over heating...

I respect the PSP having good graphics but then its just the same as the ps2....

Henry-Mix
06-04-2005, 07:23 AM
I'd say the DS is well made, they put NEW things in it
and the PSP dost have anything new....

anyways....
NDS Portable Media Streamer.
Ever had a media file that was just too big to get onto your flash cart? Want a way to watch TV on the go without doubling the size of your system with a clunky TV tuner? Then you need the Portable Media Streamer!

This product will consist of two parts:
- Standard size Nintendo DS card with main program
- Standard size GBA cart containing RAM (for temporarily storing streamed content)
- PC software for sending media

To use this product, you insert the carts into the DS and boot it in DS mode. You install the PC software and select a media directory. The Portable Media Streamer is now ready to use!

It uses the DS' WiFi capabilities to communicate with your PC via the internet and stream media. You can browse available media on the DS and select a video, music or picture file to view, or (if your PC has a TV tuner) to watch TV. The DS communicates wirelessly with your PC and streams the media you choose. If you select a prerecorded media file stored on your PC, the software will buffer media ahead of the current playing position in case you go out of range of a wireless hot spot so that it keeps playing until you are in range of a hot spot again.

The product comes in 3 versions:

Silver - 32 MB of RAM in GBA cart
Gold - 64 MB of RAM in GBA cart
Platinum - 128 MB of RAM in GBA cart

The different amounts of RAM alters how long the media can continue
playing when you leave a wireless hot spot.

So, in summary, here's how it works:

V [PC with special software - videos, pictures, music on hard drive and TV tuner plugged in]
V [Internet connection on PC]
V [Wireless hot spot near DS allows DS to access PC over internet]
V [Media buffered into RAM in GBA cart]
V [Software on NDS card reads buffered media and plays back]

anyways.. DS and PSP are very different. DS, like many other nintendo products, are generally aimed at a younger audience (pokemon, kirby, etc.) while a majority of sony's games are aimed at an older age group.(GTA, DMC, etc.)

OMG first of all,
DS stands for: From Nintendo
To our developers, it stands for "Developers' System," since we believe it gives game creators brand new tools which will lead to more innovative games for the world's players.

Also psp owns ds as, psp the umd (universal media disc) that they use. Movie companys such as warner bros and walt disney are starting to put movies onto umd discs. UMD is the disc of the next generation and soon dvd will be phased out.

The Wirleless features of both systems are on a limit. but psp pushes past ds limitations. As pictochat and wireless gaming for ds. But online gaming via wireless hotspot in psp. This means you can go visit your local libary as they have free hotspots and play someone else online!

Also the psp has the magic gate card slot, this means that using the usb port on the psp or using a card reader. You can transfer music and movie files to the memory stick duo. This means music on the move and movies too!

Also another feature, the infared port, there are rummors that this can soon act as an send and reciver from your mobile. As you can use your mobile as a wireless modem there is rumours that if your phone has an infared port, the psp can act as the web browser. Check your email and such. Sony or third parties might come up with a psp compaitble web browser saved to a UMD disc! The future is here my friends, and psp owns it!

Henry-Mix

Both have their strengths and weaknesses, and until the PSP comes out on our shores (which we now have to wait until 1st September for) we can't definitively judge it.

However, the only problem I see with the PSP is that it's designed for home use. This was even said by the creator. Now why would I want to play a handheld with PS2 graphics when I could actually go and play my PS2 (and next year, my PS3) ? I find it hard to envisage playing Metal Gear Solid or Final Fantasy whilst on the bus, if they're going to be as immersive at their PS2 counterparts.

The DS is pick-up-and-play gaming. The touch screen and stylus are a gimmick. Everyone knows that; but who said having a gimmick was a bad thing. It's being put to good effect in many of the games that have been released, and as soon as we get some proper support for the system things should pick up.

Everyone seems to be under the impression that Nintendo are going to be overtaken by Sony in the handheld market, but they won't. Not yet anyway. Many people forget that the Gameboy is the best selling games system ever. And that's a fact.

In both Japan and America, the DS sold more in it's first week than the PSP did in the week after it's release. Shops sold out of the DS, but not of the PSP, despite almost twice the amount of DS consoles shipped to shops for launch.

I own a PSP but i am very disappointed. Sure, GTA: LCS came out for PSP first, But what other games has the psp got that aren't all ready on the PS2/PS1?
If you had a look at all aviable games for PSP you will notice it is basicly the PS2 liabary.

My sister owns a DS and i wouldn't have one. To be honest the only decent games on there are Animal crossin & Mario.

Also for PSP owners, Nintendogs is coming to PSP.

Bear-Max
30-05-2006, 03:45 PM
Firstly, Nintendogs on PSP? Somehow I don't think so. The word "Nintendo" isn't in the game's title for no reason; something similar is likely, but there's absolutely zero chance of an actual Nintendogs game on the PSP.

I used to be a much bigger fan of the PSP, but my DS is my favourite handheld now. Sure, the PSP boasts all the fancy graphics; but what has it lead to? Lazy, stripped-down ports of PS2 games. I don't like the way the PSP's library has developed - there are few games actually worth the money, and even fewer that are original. Personally I've only enjoyed Daxter, GTA and Lumines. Because the DS doesn't have the great graphics, developers have had to make the games interesting in other ways and it's paid off. The DS got off to a slow start, but there are oodles of great games now: Mario & Luigi Partners in Time, Metroid Prime Hunters, Mario Kart DS, WarioWare, Super Mario 64, Advanced Wars, Animal Crossing, Phoenix Wright, Trauma Centre, Super Princess Peach, and I could probably go on. There's also plenty to come, with The New Super Mario Bros., Diddy kong Racing and Yoshi's Island 2 on the cards. I personally can't wait.

The only downfall the DS has had is it's looks, and that's already changed in Japan with the DS Lite. I commend Ninty for what they've done for gaming of late, and I'm proud to own a DS (and will soon be proud to own a Wii).

I'm not sure why this would make the PSP the winner. "/

First off, more games doesn't necessaily make it better. What it does mean though is that you'll have to try many more games before you actually find one thats worth the while.

For some reason, people aren't aware the DS has Wi-Fi, which makes me wonder why they think that'd be an advantage over the DS knowing the Wi-Fi for the DS has been extremely successful.

There's no need to. ;]

It's the thick-headed PSP fans I'm trying to reach. Even with the little advantages of the PSP, namely graphics, they're all nullified by its disadvantages. I suppose the only thing I see them justifying is why they'd pay so much for a lack-luster handheld.

Oh, and it's not called rambling when you know what you're talking about, and as far as I know, the only issue ever brought up by PSP owners that has support would be the graphics, which are easily nullified by the tedious gameplay.

there's some thick headed ds fans. its just what YOU prefer. since you prefer the ds you choose to attack on all the psp fans. its so true.

Look now ppl i recon they are both alike in some ways but the psp is the ultimate holiday thing to take with u but the ds has wi-fi (psp dont) and its gonna get the internet some time in the not too distant future but anyway its not all about graphics and style of the handheld but the proformance and what the player generally thinks about his/her console not if ur a sony fan psp rules or if u support nintendo DS rules. So stop arguing about it
