Endemol designs new reality TV show

Endemol, the company behind Big Brother, is in the process of designing a new reality TV programme that will allow viewers to become directly involved.

The new concept show, named iLand, will involve abandoning a contestant on a desert island with only a laptop fitted with broadband internet.

They must then use the laptop to build their own community.

The audience will vote for people to join the contestant or leave. They will be reliant upon the community back home to help them solve puzzles and complete tasks.

The UK director of Endemol, Peter Cowley, told The Mirror, "You might recruit a carpenter because you need to build a house or a policeman because the island needs policing but you can also evict them."

iLand has been conceived as a broadband reality format using communication tools such as email and instant messaging, but it could be extended to TV and mobile if the right sponsors are attracted.

Mr. Cowley said "The sheer scale of it would require it to be both a commission in the US and the UK.

"We certainly see this as a potentially global proposition."
