View Full Version : Rules 7 and 9 Updated! - January 2nd 2007

We have updated Rule 7 (http://kbase.runescape.com/lang/en/aff/runescape/viewarticle.ws?article_id=2077) and Rule 9 (http://kbase.runescape.com/lang/en/aff/runescape/viewarticle.ws?article_id=2079) to clarify some long standing gray areas, and to cover some recent threats. Please take the time to re-read both rules and make sure you fully understand them.
The reason for this update is both to clarify some very frequently asked questions, and also to help address recent threats which have been harming our players. In particular we have extended rule 7 to make it clear that it DOES now include third party RuneScape clients/world switchers.
We have done this for two main reasons: a) The sheer number of users losing their account/password to programs which pretend to be one thing but actually steal their password; b) Problems with some of these programs including extremely unsafe chat channels where large amounts of scamming go on, and users encourage each other to try to break the rules. When RuneScape fansites are distributing programs which are then used to discuss breaking the rules or result in their own users being scammed, it's clear that our rules need revision! We don't want to be unnecessarily restrictive, but we obviously also have to balance that with protecting our users. We've thought long and hard about this, and hence this update.

read the rants forum and see how fickle some people are. its not like jagex is going to be doing mandatory scans on peoples pc's to see if they're using swiftswitch.

Jagex are only trying to help because they are trying to cut down the hacking/scamming going on. No point in protesting about it, it won't get you anywhere O_o.

We're still allowed to use SwiftSwitch. I quote:

"What about third party RuneScape tools which don't embed or interact with the game?

Third party RuneScape tools which don't embed or interact with our game/website at all are allowed, but still not recommended for security reasons. For instance, using a 3rd party RuneScape calculator that doesn't embed the game isn't actually against the rules, but downloading third party RuneScape executables from external websites is still extremely dangerous as many programs claiming to be calculators actually steal your password. You'd be much safer using a web-based calculator that runs via your web-browser and doesn't require you download an executable program at all."

This should mean that SwiftSwitch is still legal and won't get us banned.

Here's a link if you don't believe me (which is impossible :P): http://kbase.runescape.com/lang/en/aff/runescape/viewarticle.ws?article_id=2077

Hey,

with the introduction of the new rule the 'rants' forum has turned in to spam wars with things such as:

yeh jagex have ruined the clan world and even just the general world now

Jagex starting opts: 45
Clan world starting opts: 300...thousand (300,000)

Jagex ending opts: 43 (2 mods broke down and needed to be re oiled and fixed)
Clan world ending opts: 0

The fight was very enjoyable and lasted well over the 1 minute the robots at cambridge decided this new rule.

Clan world i am pleased to see the continual returning nearly won it for us but in the end the robots power won over.

The fight boundries were set between the earth and the moon but i have to say Jagex you did alot of dragging out of these boundries.

Any clan world flaming on this topic will be striked.
Basically saying it'll ruin the clan world, what you people think?

rofl runescape is getting owned they are going to lose at least 10% of their community to this. heck the official forums so many worlds packed with protests every single section of official forums pack with threads complaining. jagex really gone to far. the funny part is they have no way to detect swiftswitch since it links directly to their site xD. And they say no 3rd party clients which means no internet explorer or firefox since they are classified as 3rd party clients which means we all have to download their lame window client that closes itself every time you get a tiny bit of lag -.-

I read that aswel ricky lol

even if they do track it all you have to do is open the rs client window from the official rs website and then clik the world there , then open swift switch pick the world there and log into swiftswitch. since it has already picked up the cookies from the official client it cant track the swiftswitch world :P

Technically IE and Firefox aren't 3rd party clients ;].

Update 2-Jan-07 - 17:21 GMT

Further to that I just want to clarify a few extra things:

1) We're absolutely NOT going to ban people who used such world-switchers historically. That would be completely unfair given we've only just mentioned this! We will of course give everyone plenty of chance to read and understand the rule, and get rid of such programs first.

2) It's only RuneScape specific add-on programs we're talking about here. You can of course still use things like msn/aim whilst playing. Just bear in mind that if you do so it's entirely at your own risk, and we won't be be able to help with abuse/scamming. (so we don't recommend it at all, but it's ultimately up to you)

3) We're also looking at adding an official 'group chat' system into the game ASAP for clans and other groups of players to use.

Meh, what I wanted to say came out wrong.
You wont have to use the client because Runescape was designed to be used on a internet browser so they will allow it. It came out wrong soz lol =P.
