My Opinion i love em both but i like onions better.

I like both. But. I only like garlic in the form of garlic bread, and onion in the form of onion rings. If you just give me normal garlics and onions, I will not eat it.

Garlic is much better because it's better as flavour and is difficult to cook wrong, whereas as some Italian resteraunts a dish can be ruined by over (or under) use of onions.

I prefer onions, you can't really have garlic on it's own so the flavour changes all the time.
