LOL... nor was apple a music distributor but it turned out successful - now number one...
I think they will do okay, not as well as the iPod due to the phone market is more competitive and stuff.
lol, for $499 they can keep it.

I think it will be succesful. That phone will probally be the first of many.
Quite like the idea myself. All these phones out now that offer ''the best MP3 features etc'' they can't offer that when the number one mp3 providers, are offering that service in a phone.

Technically, they shouldnt be a music distributer, they broke their deal with The Beatles. They promised never to associate the apple with music (because of their famous record-center picture), and they did

They are not a phone company but they partnered up with cingular wireless which gives out the service. Most phones are made by different companies like samsong or nokea or motorola and the service is from a different provider. The phone is really cool with the interface and the things it can do.

They already delt with that case and reached a compromise so that is in the past.
Apples move to music has not hurt the Beatles. The deal was more like apple wouldnt record music and like be a producer.

Errugh, I've turned the volume off, he is the irritating iArrogant I've ever had to listen to. He is so far up his own backside I hope he gets hit by the new transport system, iBus.
Is he the man that made up the lying adverts that the Mac is super great with no flaws what so ever, including the iPod being "the best" etc?

I think its too expensive. I don't really like apple products either, especially the ipod, seems tacky and scratches quite easily (just by looking at my friends ipods).

Personally, I think only a minor part of the iPhone is an actual phone... More of a multimedia centre or handheld computer with a phone attached. I am sure phones normally come with a few buttons?

I'm disappointed it isn't coming out sooner. It looks absolutely amazing. When the iPod first launched people said "Another MP3 player... so what?" and now look at it. Apple entered the digital music industry and took it by storm. I personally think this will do the same, although possibly not to the same extent. Steve Jobs knows the mobile phone industry is extremely competitive, and has already said that Apple is only aiming for 1% market share of the smartphone industry with this first product.
People seem to be forgetting this is a SMARTPHONE. It's not anything like a D900 or a W850i, it's competitors are the Blarkberry Pearl and Treo mobiles. This is primarily a business phone to be honest, but I'm banking on getting one just for the built-in widescreen iPod. Hell yes I want to watch Zoolander on my phone when I've got a free lesson at school... Who wouldn't?
Roll on Q4 2007... I'll have an upgrade due then too :)

Psht I'm tired of hearing about people moan about broken iPods. I have an iPod nano, the original ones, the ones that 'break in your pocket', it has been run over by my computer chair multiple times, run over by my bike, been through a wash cycle, thrown at a wall and dropped to many times to count, and it's fine. I never even used a case.

The original Nanos were quite bad for scratching, but I agree that most of the problems were waaaayyyy over-exaggerated. I had my iPod Mini for 2 years and it was almost perfect looking when I sold it a few months ago.

It is "just another MP3 player." Hyped up by a big company that advertise it anywhere and everywhere. When you go shopping, it sits next to a good load of real MP3 Players. Some better than it.
Apple entered the digital music industry and took it by storm.
Even though the tech behind the iPod was taken of the Creative Zen, which came out a smidgen before the iPod.

I stick by my idea of it just being another phone really, just more expensive and similar to a PDA with music etc in. I just realised this doesn't make it a phone, but meh. It's a PDA/multimedia phone.

You could get an iPod video and a phone for cheaper. It would probably be better. Yes, two things combined, but that means a nice target for stealing or possibly when you break it. I think what you said about it being a business phone is spot on. You can't take that to school, it will snap, like the first iPod Nano.

Yeah, and I've noticed most people haven't even seen the things the phone can do. ;/
I do have some gripes on the phone though. Some more major than others;
- Battery life (seems kinda bad)
- No GPS? (It includes Google Maps so I thought it would just make sense to have GPS)
- Cingular as exclusive carrier (I hate Cingular)
- Price (not a biggie, would've been nicer if it was cheaper though)
But then there are things that I find very exciting;
- Visual voicemail (= viewing voice messages and choosing the one you want to hear. Very handy.)
- Full browser (although it looked a bit sluggish, its still really nice to view a full web page while on the go)
- Widescreen iPod (pretty awesome in the demonstration and there was virtually no lag time when accessing the menus or music.)
- Stainless steel back (no smudges, woo!)
Anyway, I'll be buying one when they come out. Heres to hoping other phone makers implement these ideas into their own phones in the near future.
I find the resistance of any brand products pretty funny. I mean, how easy is it to just not buy their products and end your turmoil? Granted, it's only your opinion that you're expressing, but when your argument is so old it doesn't even matter anymore, it's time to look for other nonsensical excuses to fuel your mediocre rant.
It isnt over priced.
Buy an ipod and a phone - it will cost more.

They would have, they have a legal team, but not have thought of it as a problem.
Also, you have to see it's more of a smartphone/pda which is way different than your Motorola V3i/ Samsung D900, it's not overpriced.

Well, it is a bit different, but I think they should price it at around £180 - £200
They did check the name and they have been trying to get a deal with Cisco, but no agreement was made, but Apple announced the name anyway. How dumb can they get?
They called Cisco "silly" for sueing them rofl. Apple are the silly ones.

This phone has WiFi, 3G, is an iPod itself, has a touchscreen which doesn't require a stylus and syncs perfectly with a mac/pc and has OS X running on it.
You'll get it free, lower on contract here, I believe.

In america, your mobile phones and carriers work differently. Here, a decent phone costs around £70+

It is "just another MP3 player." Hyped up by a big company that advertise it anywhere and everywhere. When you go shopping, it sits next to a good load of real MP3 Players. Some better than it.
It isn't "just another MP3 player" though, that's the point. It's the most successful MP3 player ever. In 2005 Apple was estimated to have almost 75% of the MP3 marketshare, and with the new Nanos and upgraded Video iPods I'm sure that's grown over 2006. Playing music isn't just what counts: the iPod is praised all over the world for its simplicity and ease of use. It's a known product and consumers feel it as a "safe" purchase. That's part of its success.
Even though the tech behind the iPod was taken of the Creative Zen, which came out a smidgen before the iPod.
"All the tech behind the iPod"? That's just downright fabrication. Apple got sued over the user interface for choosing songs and nothing more. The dispute was settled out of court and Apple has paid Creative for the right to use the interface. It's not even a matter of copying either... If you look at the patent it's pretty vague compared to most.
I stick by my idea of it just being another phone really, just more expensive and similar to a PDA with music etc in. I just realised this doesn't make it a phone, but meh. It's a PDA/multimedia phone.
It isn't a PDA, it's a smartphone.

Every bit of new tech is a target for thieves. Money is a target for thieves. Just looking at a lout wrong can make you a target for a beating :P
The first iPod Nano... snapping? Somehow I doubt it. Maybe in a few cases of severe iPod neglect, but in no way is that any type of widespread problem.
