View Full Version : In a Galaxy far, far away

Well not really, just over the pond. :P

David Beckham going to Los Angeles Galaxy on about £120 million + 5 year deal.

Your views please.

Myself, I think it's a really bad move. If he was serious about getting back in the England squad, he'd come back to the Premiership or at least up his game in Spain.

P.S sorry if posted :)

True, but there you go. He's only going for the money. I mean £120 million in 5 years, that's just obscene.

It confirms his how pesimistic he is about getting back into the England squad. Any hope he did have has practically faded with this move. He said he wishes to promote 'soccer' in the US and he's got an academy 'soccer' school over there. He'll buy a mansion on the West Coast, have Tom Cruise & co visiting on a regular basis, BBQ parties and everything else that comes with moving to LA. The wages are sickening! Bound to pull in the crowds and promote the MLS to an extent but I hope it all...fails...miserably

Is that £425,000 a week? :o

Beckham is a celebrity with the added football extra.

KEEP HIM OUT THE ENGLAND SQUAD

He should promote the MLS as Bradders said, but even with that, when I was in America in the summer of 2005, there were no MLS adverts or anything on the TV. I did see one for the Premiership on Cable though :D

And :o at the wages, I never knew it was that much a week.

Brody

it is infact around 498 thousand pound a week according to sky sports news
on a apparently 128 million pound 5 year deal

Ok, he is going in august
he is going to be on approx £450,000 a week
He has always said he wants to end his career in America.
He is 31, Add 5 (His contract) onto that. 36 = Retirement.
The MLS has numerous TV deals now

It is simple really.

Well you can't blame him, he will play every match, no pressure on him and a lot of money.

Grainger@CUFC
11-01-2007, 07:16 PM
He only went for the money, no question there. I'd laugh if he didn't play as well.

OMGitsaROSS

What player wouldn't turn down over 400 grand a week. And anyway the kids have been going to a Spanish school for 4 years already, so that doesn't really make a difference.

Them amercians are crazy to offer him a deal worth 128 MIL over 5 years. He's past it.

Grainger@CUFC

He's past it.

You're right there mate. He should have been dropped from the England team years ago but Eriksson was so far up his **** that he kept playing when there were many other players better than him that never got a look in.

120,000,000 woah thats alot i mean for him :s he isnt "awesome" anymore

It's not the fact that they wanted him for his football abilities though, it was for what comes with him, like all the fame etc

He is? I know he was in Asia and other places but football isn't even that big in the US overall. I know they bought him for marketing purposes too but 128 million is still a joke.

I know they bought him for marketing purposes too but 128 million is still a joke. He's probably the only European footballer they know of over there. I saw footage of the news breaking on a US broadcast - the presenters were in fits and the studio crew gave a huge round of applause after the news was annoucned...what the hell is that about!?

Lol, typical Americans thinking theyre getting in on something good :D

Give it a couple of months and it'll all have died down and we won't think of him until he retires.

i think its a good move if he came to england he'd only end up playing for a no-hope team like newcastle or westham or liverpool at the rate they're going. The americans dont actually care about how good a footballer he is just that he's a total phit celeb and one of the spice girls is married to him. i hope it works well for american soccer though

He was are top scorer in the world cup right Then he gets droped, He has an amazing talent of scoring from way out and i don't care what anybody says no one can fill his boots, He needs to come back and play for a premiership side if he wants a chance in hell of getting back on to the england side

:Hazel

I think its the wrong decision in my opinion. If he was so passionate about his country he would have come back here, played for a prem team and fought for his england place. Instead he took the suckers way out and has given up.
What a loser.

Azul

What? Why would he go back to England, I mean think about it! He wouldn't get into any of the top 4 teams, even if he did, he'd be warming the bench like he is at Real.

Everyone is saying he's in it for the money, but the guy has a football academy out there, he's clearly commited to that. He is past his best, but I thought he still could of done a job in one of the slower leagues like Seria A, but he would have to readapt and learn a new language. He has done the best for his family.

So yeah, his wages are outragous, but I can gaureentee they will trebble that in the 5 years he is there. I say good luck to him.

I think Bolton wanted him at one stage- they are top 4 & if he was that bothered about his England place he would have come back and fought for it.
