recently, i've been getting really down about school. i'm usually down about it but now it's more than ever. i got some of my gcse exams coming up, and some mocks, and i know i'm going to fail. all my family have such high hopes of me, mainly because everyone in my family is a complete failiure and they're all thick as two planks of wood, my brother and my dad dropped out of school before their GCSE's, and because my target grades are now straight A's [before, business was a C but it got raised to A -.-] they've really been pushing me and nagging me about it, and well it kinda makes me feel even worse because i know i'm not capable of it. you may say 'if you wasn't capable of it, they wouldn't be your target grades' i'm not joking now, i know for a fact i'm uncapable of getting A's in any of my subjects. it's like today, i took a day off [without telling my parents] to catch up on my coursework, i'm about 2 months behind, yesterday i handed in my german coursework for end of november.. and well i couldn't do it. i sat here at my desk without any distractions for hours trying to do it and i just couldn't, i think it is all the pressure they're putting me under
i don't really know what to do.
anyone got any good advice?

I know how you feel. Your family should understand that you're trying your best. If you talk to teachers they can help you organise your time properly.
If your seriously behind on a subject and know that to be able to catch up you'd have to let other subjects slide don't do it e.g. If you have 2 pieces of coursework for a certain subject and they both take time but 1 won't really effect your overall final grade leave it and do the other.
It's hard to think about what to prioritise but your mocks will help you. I know they're important but if the results are not fantastic then don't worry because at the end of the day they are there to help you realise what your stregnths and weaknesses are and what you should work on. Make sure you don't stress yourself out over school work and that you have a balance of work and time to just chill out otherwise it'll make everything seem worse.
The fact that your teachers raised your predicted grades shows they have faith in you and they'll help you because that's there job.
Taking one day off isn't that bad sometimes you need that extra time but don't do it all the time. Just let people know your struggling and hopefully they'll try and help you
Hope this helps, sorry I went on a bit well a lot but yeah

You sat at your desk without any distractions? Now that is a complete lie - not an hour passed without you posting. Yes I'm being blunt. Believe it or not but I'm right & HxF is a distraction especially to something as big as coursework. How about just trying turning off the computer & doing homework/work without any distractions from the internet. From what I see you obviously haven't put the effort in because if other people have the time to do all the homework and hand it in on time then so do you. I don't want any excuses because I see you on the forum alot so you can't really be busy. Just get your mum to hide the modem or something if your problem is that bad, because if it was affecting my school work then I'd do the same thing.

I'm in exactly the same boat.
Like i've just got my reports and all my effort grades are like Cs. I'm like doing the best I can but teachers are pushing me really hard.

i was sat here the whole time with my coursework folder infront of me actually ;p. but yeah, one of my new years resolutions was to try and crack down on my school work, so far i've been failing miserably.

no that's fine, and i do intend not to do it at all again really, but i need to have a serious chat with my tutor, english teacher and my german teacher (maybe a few others too) beause english and german are the lessons i am really struggling to survive in at the moment, but everything you've said has helped :]

i don't really have a computer problem, the main reason i do most of my coursework at the computer is because i do use the internet a lot to help me, i read some different guides that help a lot, and i ask people from school for help at times too. but hxf isn't a distraction, my main problem is getting started, i can sit here for hours on end just trying to think of that opening sentence.. and then when it hits me, i can write pages in no time. like in the last 3 or 4 minutes before replying to this thread i've written half a page on my english c/w. but i will take your advice and if i do not need help from friends or to use the internet i will get off the pc for a bit and try a little harder
all the help given is greatly apriciated :] i will rep people when i can, given out too much in last 24 hours.

If I were you I would talk to your parents outright and explain how you are feeling. Let them know the pressure they are putting you under is not helping you prepare for your exams and is making you feel worse. Explain that although they want you to do aswell as possible; that you have been struggling a little which has made things worse and ask them to support you no matter how well you do. That should help relieve the pressure a bit and it might even improve your exam results. :)

but i suppose i'm going to have to try, thanks hazel :]
move to scotland, no coursework :}
you should try setting yourself a time limit for single things, that helps me get started if i know i have stuff i want to do after.

lol i'm in like the same position as you, in maths teacher tells us the questions and how to do them before the mocks, we all get A's and A*s and that goes down as our predicted grades which none of use are actually going to get, it's totally stupid. but anyway iv'e done all coursework but business i tend to just wait until the last night and stay up until 2am doing it non stop. works for me. i'm only really revising on the subjects that i need grades to get into college for.
like someone else said we've got like what 5 months to revise for gcse's.
two weeks revising for mocks? results can only get better

If you are feeling like your parents are putting too much pressure on you, then straight out tell them that they are. I do that with my parents. They always pressure me to get good grades, and I do, but sometimes it becomes to much and they are constantly nagging for me to study all night. I just tell them to please stop it and they usually lay off for awhile.

hmm
the solution if one exists is eluding me..
wait i caught it! get your parents to help! stupid suggestion but listen, get your parents to threaten you when you don't feel like working (aka no Habboxforum till ur finished) that kind of thing has the right effect, and take saturdays off go to a party go crazy hyper and burn up the energy of the week u spent studying

talk to your parents? tell them you don't like the pressure, and if anything it's gonna get you worse grades. just say you'd be better off without them being pushy.
