Just wondering what would actually happen. Habbo cant really do much except contact the fansite owner or maybe perm ban them from the hotel but whats that gonna do? And if habbo try emailing their host (provided they can actually find out who their host is), its likely that the host will turn to them and say "hey, its their site they can do what they want". What do u lot think? Discuss.

BTW im not doing the above I have an UNofficial badge on my homepage. Makes it look just as good :]

If it ever happened to me, It would be no use contacting the host as It would still be me. Suppose they would try and shut it down though.

Don't suppose they would do anything except ask you to remove it etc.

It will probably the "nooby" ones that do it anyway, the ones that are up for about a week then just close for the fun of it.

Yeah. i plan to keep mine up for as long as possible. Maybe even till im 30 lol. I want it to get official and im going to do that via hard work and gaining visitors. Im not just gonna slap a badge on and say were official.

OMGitsaROSS
13-01-2007, 11:57 AM
lol. good luck with that. Would you leave habbo before that though? And just be a site manager? Or would you be staying on at Habbo? Or making hte occasional visit?

Official doesn't neccesarily make you mega popular... I know a quite a few fansites that aren't popular and are official. Habbox forum isn't official but its the most popular habbo forum i know

The website is more reputable though because when people visit an official fansite - they know that thousands voted to make them official.

habbofm and habbohut, they are official but their radio is never on and when it is, theres some crappy dj on.

beer
13-01-2007, 12:40 PM
Yeah I know. I reckon they should start reviewin sites manually, checking how often sum1 DJs, how long their on 4, how full timetable is etc etc. Rather than just letting people vote because they like the site :s.

Habbohut and HabboFM and BobbleFM used to be good when they made sure they had DJs on 24/7, but management went, and now Habbohut and HabboFM are crap fansites.

HabboxForum is popular because it was one of the first forums about habbo.

beer
13-01-2007, 02:54 PM
Yeah dan. Also gemma (assistant manager) left Habbo FM and Habbo. She was the 1 who djed most and brought visitors. Unless Mike (manager) pulls something out of his butt, maybe VB or something like that then Habbo FM is going to loose official status in my opinion. And their news page has gone lol.

Habbo cant dooo *Removed* about it, its a Habbo image, it would mean nothing to the host, and thats a good point cause some scammer site can post that image and then trick all the little Habbos in Habbo land, haha stupid Habbos.

Hmmm yes it is a habbo image that is copyrighted. Im not too sure about copyright laws but if they told you to remove it and you didnt im sure they could do whatever they wanted.

There is a list of companies that can shut websites down. Habbo and Sulake are not on the list. I'll find the list in a minute.

=\ No company can 'take down' a website. But they can request it. If they don't they could take them to court, in theory.

You people don't know anything. No company can just take down a website (Unless they host that company and its within their TOS to do so), the company who has a problem with the website would contact the webhost to ask for them to take it down and if that fails they will take the person to court to get a court order for the website to be shut down. If they do not comply with the court order they can get a fine and a prison sentance.

Anyway the IWF (Internet Watch Foundation) are only for child abuse images hosted worldwide and criminally obscene and incitement to racial hatred content hosted in the UK.. like it says on the homepage.

ScottDiamond
14-01-2007, 07:57 PM
IWF take partly control in that, but also deal with: Hacking, DNA Breachs, Copyright Breaches and all the other stuff I've not got time to go into detail about.

They CAN take down the website. If the host doesn't comply, they would take down the host - on their own server or not they have the power.

What is a DNA breach? So, how exactly do you think they go about taking websites down?

It's like indentity fraud, only slightly different; and more physical.

lol i agree. And blimey that company is like the government for the net. Woah. But i bet Habbo cant tell them to take a specific website down just cos their displaying the official seal lolol. And as long as u have the disclaimer u aint breahing copyright either.

ScottDiamond
15-01-2007, 04:45 PM
To the person who said they are like the Government of the internet, they actually are part of the government. And Ditto Adam, he took my words from my mouth over the DNA Breach. ;)

ScottDiamond

They're really part of Scotland Yard but I cba telling you stuff we learnt in Modern Studies. Anyway, yeah you could if you want I suppose. However you have the chance of them claiming the Official Badge to be THEIRS if you don't put a copyright!

Yeah well. What about sulake? Are they "bigger" than Habbo or just the same cos sulake r the 1s that own it?

8Freak8
15-01-2007, 07:00 PM
I'm shocked at the replies to this thread.

Ok.

Sulake (who are Habbo - not bigger than Habbo, they ARE Habbo - the exact same people) can request that you remove any image which are copyrighted to Sulake (any image which shows any content that Sulake employees made).

Copyright advice first states that they make a polite request for it to be removed from the site. If that fails, they should speak to the site's host. If that fails (because you yourself are the host), they can speak to whoever owns the server that you resell hosting on. If that fails (because you own the server), they can speak to the datacenter which owns the server.

If all that fails, they can choose to prosecute any of the above for breach of copyright, which means it has to go to court. At court they have to proof that the images used show content made by them. If they do, you will be forced to remove them. If you still refused, you would be facing fines, and at worst prison sentences - for ignoring a court judgement.

You might think "Well Sulake won't pay for all that over a fansite image", but if Sulake won the court case you have to pay for it. Also, your host (or one of the other companies that contribute to keeping your site online) won't risk being taken to court and being fined - so they won't know if Sulake is serious and will remove the image (or your site) before it gets anywhere near court.

ALSO, someone said "How would they even find my host?". The answer is simple, WHOIS allows anybody to find the host and domain registrar of any website. www.whois.sc (http://www.whois.sc)

To be honest, to even think about it, or to even want to have anything to do wtih habbo over the age of 13, I find quite tragic

erm 8f8, surely if u put the disclaimer on that covers copyright including the fansite badge? And also the who is only shows where my domain is hosted with and the nameservers (which, incidentally are set to the host's)

I am co-owning an upcoming radio site, which is based around Habbo and I'm gonna help keep that going for like ages.
I am 13 and I have now given up on most of Habbo.
I do have the occasional visit, not often though.
