View Full Version : A Tech. Group

my suggestion is to have a closed group of people to help and give support around the technical forums to do with the web and computers etc so people needing help can pm these people if they need help any time etc and know its trusted advise and not abit dodgy or anything :)

the group would cover the website, computer area.

i think a public poll would be best.

Seatherny
13-01-2007, 07:41 PM
Admins should made a new public group where people can join. The people wanting to join would have to provide reasons etc why they should be in this group. If a Admin thinks the user deserves a place in the group, then the Admin should allow them :).

Then users can ask for help on a forum where only members of this group can reply.

DaveTaylor
13-01-2007, 07:43 PM
some people would join and not do much, i think but ye its a valid idea :)

People who have been helping around in the webdesign etc forum should be the only ones allowed.
If they decide to do nothing, they should be kicked out from the group :)

DaveTaylor

thats prob what would happen :P

13-01-2007, 07:53 PM
but Admins' will slowly forget and slack.!

I think we should vote for a leader of the group who picks who goes in ect.

DaveTaylor
13-01-2007, 07:56 PM
true true, but thats the admins to decide a guess who goes leader etc

Sounds like a way to show everyone that you are uber1337. I don't believe you need a public group to show everyone this, as it should be shown in the quality of your posts. People that really care who are in the public group are the ones who already know who are knowledgable in the computer section.

Just looks like extra work IMO.

Sounds like a good idea tbh, but I don't post in webdesign forum - only really Technology discussion and Computer Problems.

DaveTaylor

differant members do differant things just the same group, but differant area :P

Matt,
13-01-2007, 08:49 PM
I think it should work on recomendation so when someone helps a user the person who was helped posts there name in a stickied thred and once your name is there so many times you can join

I like the idea, but this has only popped into your mind because of the Pixel Artists group. If one was created i think people should be hand picked and the team should be no bigger than 5 people.

Dave could be a leader he knows his stuff :)

Maybe it should be created as a public member group, like the pixel artists one. although maybe have someone to validate people who enter it ? so anyone can attempt to join, only those who evers in charge deems capable actualy gets the title though o.0

Yes I agree with that idea!

2-3 people in charge and a vote is set, seems fair to me:)

I believe 3 would be the ideal number, and then you have majority rules.

DaveTaylor

yep, well its up to mad or another admin as i said if i get good reply he will consider it :)

EDIT: if, and only if i was made the leader i know who i would choose to be the others

Quite frankly, I can't see this happening. If we did this, the graphics section would want a team, the spam people would want a formal Kl Kl Krew, the people who dwell in the seedy sections of the Teens and Older Members sections would want a Relationship Help Team and Agony Aunt Team etc.

I also think it will add to the general *****ness of all the computer forums, espically the WebDesign section. It seems you cannot post there without getting flamed to ****.

You would make a good leader, would the group get there own forums to chat in? :)

DaveTaylor

no point to own forums tbh

Well the B/S crews arnt gonna really come to be, but others i dont actually see as a bad thing, it will give people an idea of who they should talk to when there stuck, aka which members are knowledgeable in the aria, alot like what the habbox web design team used to be, im not sure if it was officially supposed to or not, but way back when the web design team on habbox did used to do nearly all the support help in the web design section, its why 8freak8 put me on it originally (why i was told at least) although now days that team dont really have anyone capable of even simple web design on it, so its kinda lost the prestige, which is the risk with this group, aka if there just picked by popularly, rule abidance, not by actual skill and helpfulness "/
Plus i cant see the leader being anyone but an existing staff member o.0

Also ive never realy had any of the flameing problems? just insult back o.0

DaveTaylor

no body capable, you obviously don't read around that much :|

14-01-2007, 11:08 AM
I agree with a few more people dave, but i'd say 8 maximum, the forums aren't that demanding in terms of support, its mainly the web design section that requires most support.

As for leaders, i disagree there should be no leader, your in that group to help others, why do you need a leader to do that? Also it would just cause more trouble if someone in the group fell out with one of the leaders.

DaveTaylor
14-01-2007, 11:18 AM
we agree'd there would be like 3 leader people, aye call them that lol, to agree on whos in and out.

Might be a problem as there are so many people that can be put in the group. Since most of you use the forums often, wouldn't people already know to contact you or make a thread asking if they have a question or problem?

Yeah but us techies like to show off ;p

DaveTaylor
14-01-2007, 11:54 AM
ok, alot of people know about RAM, HDD, etc, but latly now vista is turning up and alot of exploits are showing in XP more viruses and harm to peoples computer is coming around, you know you can trust sites like ebay and shops online with good rep, but say you wanted to buy a piece of software from a online shop for the first time, you wouldn't have a clue, would you know to look to the address bar for a lock sign to know its secure, i doubt it to be honest, i didnt know that the first time. Or perhaps you have blue screened and you need help, you can't log in, internet is acting up its these things that not everyone knows about and someone could say oh go to www.something.com (http://www.something.com) and download the program and it works could be a simple virus they may not read about the forum to see who knows what etc.

PS: tom post uncalled for :P

I think that when other people post a problem, they will be able to trust advice/replys from a person who is a member of the group whereas they may not take anybodys advice otherwise even though it may be correct.

DaveTaylor
14-01-2007, 02:01 PM
wheres mad when you need him ¬_¬

8Freak8
14-01-2007, 02:56 PM
The group would have to be open, not closed, otherwise it becomes like a staff group.

DaveTaylor
14-01-2007, 03:00 PM
fine with me:) but who would decide one gets in as there may be false people wanting in?

8Freak8
14-01-2007, 03:08 PM
Unfortunately false people would be able to get in, but it should be clear from their advice (and other people's replies) as to whether they are correct or not. Like in the Pixel Artist public group, really it's for anybody who shows an interest in Pixel Art, not neccesarily that they're good at it. So this group would have to be for people who are interested in tech/coding stuff.

DaveTaylor
14-01-2007, 03:10 PM
seems fair to me, if some people agree on a member who isn't helping or giving out false info can we report them so to speak?

darkchicken101
14-01-2007, 03:12 PM
Hah, no, you can't. I'm in the Pixel Artist group, never even glanced at the forums.

Kinda loses its elitism when you hear that eh?

They would still be able to get back in as the group is a public group :).

DaveTaylor
14-01-2007, 03:13 PM
ban them for it XD lol

---MAD---
14-01-2007, 03:15 PM

That would be too harsh. The groups are called public as they are for the public ;). That is why I told you this idea wouldn't work out if you wanted it strictly for those who know what they are saying / advicing ;).

DaveTaylor
14-01-2007, 03:16 PM
i would prefer the group to be open then no group at all tbh :)

so this a yes or no :P

Tomm
14-01-2007, 03:33 PM
Habbo Forum have a group like this, but it is not a open group but nor are they staff..

DaveTaylor
14-01-2007, 04:03 PM
and the verdict is :P
