Isnt it amazing that you were the first that reached out of billions of other cells? And for some, its a shame

Never mind babe, I don't mind people thinking low of me when
1) They're not nearly good enough to appreciate how fantastic I am.
2) They don't like me simply because of a disagreement in the spam section.
3) They keep a record of who they need to -rep.
4) They destroy the effectiveness of sarcasm through overuse of ellipsis.

I'll keep my crack well away from you if you don't mind. I said nothing bad of keeping rep records, plenty of people on the forum do, but to hold such a grudge over a -rep comment that you feel the need to put it in your sig is pretty sad mate.

Cells? *** you on about? If you said sperm then maybe that makes a little sense.. but cells? Did you fail biology or just not take it?
ps. I apparently failed at life? (according to my bad rep at least) All i can really say, if i got the F, i think they were a bit generous in giving you the U.

Cells? *** you on about? If you said sperm then maybe that makes a little sense.. but cells? Did you fail biology or just not take it?They are sperm CELLS. The sperm is created as a cell from the body, it is a haploid cell. It's best not to criticise people for the hell of it when you don't know much yourself, and to be honest that's not really what this thread is about. :eusa_danc
Anyway Mr/Ms. TheLastShadow, it's not that amazing considering the universe. Granted there was a massive chance of another sperm cell reaching the ovum, but strictly speaking all sperm cells contain the same DNA - thus they were all the same copies of you.
Now the universe, how many planets and species do you think are out there? What were the chances that you would be human of all things. I find that more amazing, personally.
More amazing than this 'FlyingJesus' goon anyway.

That's just rude. On what basis am I a goon as opposed to, say, yourself?

But surely that's not true because each one is a different consciousness? Not that sperm cells actually have a consciousness of course, but just because it's identical doesn't mean it's consciousness will be the same (yes, I'm purposely avoiding the word "personality").
Also, the sperm cells are only half of him remember, so they wouldn't produce exact copies.

Not really. All cells would have had exact same DNA anyway. Dont think I would have turned out any differently tbh.

i think it's funny how people use the phrase goon and don't actually know what it means.
a goon was the name given to the german guards by the british in one of the world wars, not sure which one.
but yeah, i don't think tom (i think it's tom.) is german, or a gaurd for one of the world wars tbh, but i may be wrong.

Goon in common terminology means 'fool', and I don't see why I should have to hide my opinion when he's sitting there going:
"I AM SO AMAZING!! Look at me, I'm amazing!!!"
like a five year old.
For the record, many words we use today didn't mean half of what they meant in the past. Language changes, deal with it kiddo.
Yes I know that's not what he said, but it's the essence of what he said.
NOW:
But surely that's not true because each one is a different consciousness? Not that sperm cells actually have a consciousness of course, but just because it's identical doesn't mean it's consciousness will be the same (yes, I'm purposely avoiding the word "personality").
Also, the sperm cells are only half of him remember, so they wouldn't produce exact copies.Sperms have no consciousness, they have DNA, protein to feed them and chemicals to penetrate the ovum.
If you believe a sperm cell has consciousness, then you must believe bacteria and all other prokaryotes possess consciousness too - they are all cells. Which means eukaryotes (organisms consisting of many cells) have multiple consciousness, which is damn confusing. Also means when you take an antibiotic you're slaughtering all those helpless bacteria cells who, to be frank, didn't have it easy.
Consciousness is created by the brain, it relies on perception, experience and sensory awareness. A sperm cell does not have a brain. I'm sorry.
Sperm cell is only half yes, but there's only one ovum out there, baby.

Cell is a very board term and doesn't necessarily relate to a spermatozoan, and in fact covers, unless you implying any other unicellular organisms that happen to be there, or maybe even parts of a multicellular organism were also heading for the same location and would initiate the same sequence of events there after, i believe my original criticisms still stands.
Not to mention, the phrase he appears to have quoted uses the word sperm within it.

"It's best not to criticise people for the hell of it when you don't know much yourself" (your the one that wanted to be accurate)
Since its up to the sperm to be determining gender if the dna in each was exactly the same we would have a big problem on our hand, so there is quite obviously variation within the DNA in that some sperm will be carrying a X chromosome and others a Y (so although the two halfs come from the same DNA in males the two halfs aint the same)
Then theres also the inherent genetic variation and mutations, which due to there critical roll in evolution, are responsible for the very existence of are species to start with and is still evident within it. Although usealy only at the level of individual chromosomes, this still effects whether the gentic information supplied in one sperm is numerically identical to that of another. If there was no variation any genetic abnormality would be impossible, so alot of people with them should be able to exist... granted the same applys to the genetic information supplied by the Ovum
Now the universe, how many planets and species do you think are out there? What were the chances that you would be human of all things. I find that more amazing, personally.
Well considering the gamites provided were of a human, being born as something of than a human would be a little odd, so id say his chances were quite high in being born a human if at all.
Personly i dont belive in any metaphysics with soles and all the crap, im more a functionalist if anything in my concept of mind "/
But surely that's not true because each one is a different consciousness? Not that sperm cells actually have a consciousness of course, but just because it's identical doesn't mean it's consciousness will be the same (yes, I'm purposely avoiding the word "personality").
Again this depends alot on your belife in what exsacty mind (concisoness is) a twin is a gentic duplicate, do you belive they have the same consciousness? i would doubt it. but unless im misreading your comment (sorry if i am) you logic seems to imply they would?

I hardly find it amazing, if another sperm beat me (or the sperm that beat me), I doubt I would care less considering sperm/eggs don't exactly care?

Not to mention, the phrase he appears to have quoted uses the word sperm within it.So if he's quoted that, it's obvious he knew what he meant? So there was no need to insult him and act as if he was clueless? Sperm cells are still cells, there's no point getting technical about it on a forum like this, is there? If I say 'that person' I could mean any person, but if it's obvious what person I mean, I don't need to describe what race they are, do I?
Correct me if I'm wrong here (I don't profess to be an expert, biology went over my head at A-level), but I don't think sperm cells have varying DNA. Sperm cells are produced in meiosis cell division thus giving them half the chromosomes they need, however meiosis also produces genetically identical cells - thus every sperm cell carries an exact copy of the DNA. Variation and mutation of DNA occur when the sperm cell passes the DNA onto the ovum. Most variation and mutation would occur when the cells divide, eventually forming the foetus.
I didn't understand much else in your post because it looked too confusing, like you were bringing in information that had no relevance to anything. Don't get me wrong here, not trying to start a fight - just getting the facts straight. If I'm right, please don't correct me on minor things just because you view this as some sort of argument - I have better things to be arguing about. But if I'm wrong, please enlighten me.
