View Full Version : Will Wood be extinct?

People use Wood for alot of things like building houses, projects or even to burn. Now, with the cost of oil, alot of people are getting into Woodstoves and fireplaces.thus causing more wood to be cut and killed. Trees are a major part of out life because they give off oxygen. Do you think they will be come extinct?

Are you asking "how do trees grow?" I'm unsure if it's a typo or not.

Sorry. ment to say like how do they reproduce?

yeah, trees reproduce by scattering seeds like most plants.. i think.
and if there's millions of trees in the rainforests reproducing they surely wont die out.

Not if nothing is done about it. The rate they are being chopped down is crazy. Plus not all types of trees have the same uses. If you do DT (product design) you learn about hard woods / soft woods etc :).

Natural resources cannot become 'extinct'.

Unless it's like an acorn tree or w/e. They just drop the acorn and it gets buried.

no for the reason that wood is renewable rofl

uh huh her
15-01-2007, 07:04 PM
no. i believe that governments in the amazon or w/e, where alot of trees are cut down, have set up a camapign, which says that for every 1 tree thats cut down, 2 trees must be planted to replace it.

Oil will be depleted, it's a natural resource. If it cannot be found nor made again, then to some extent it will be extinct.

Wood makes skate decks and surf boards. It best stay around.

If trees become extinct, we die. lol.

no..because plants also give off oxygen..

The timber construction place I work at, plants a new tree for every tree it cuts down. It's a renewable source unlike fossil fuels (Oil, Gas etc.)

The timber construction place I work at, plants a new tree for every tree it cuts down. It's a renewable source unlike fossil fuels (Oil, Gas etc.)Most of the time that's just trash talk from CEOs, the fact of the matter is organisations cut down a hell of a lot more trees than they plant.

Oil will run out before wood, and once oil runs out we will be more heavily dependent on electricity. This could mean more trees are expended as a power source, if there are no alternative methods.

Trees will all die one day, this whole planet will die one day - there's no time frame specified in this post. But do I think trees will outlive the human race? Yes, yes I do.

In my opinion, humanity will exterminate itself sooner than it will expend all trees. Unless timber becomes more profitable than it currently is.

jeez who knew this thread would go this far..:s ...Tree huggers..Well in future we'll make sure your threads only get one page of replies, sorry for any discomfort caused to you.

On topic: Trees will be fairly redundant in the future anyway. There are other things that give oxygen, I'm sure humanity would find a way around it if pressed. The only reason it hasn't been researched yet is because it just isn't viable for business.

No, because wood--litterally--grows on trees.

No, because wood--litterally--grows on trees.Yeah but machines--literally--cut them down, and much faster than they grow too.

That rainforest ain't immortal, people.

Not that I care either way, trees are boring. Free oxygen?! I'd buy my own if I wanted it that badly.

As long as people have trees in their backyards then they will not become extinct.

Eh, Im worried about rainforsts being destroyed and the removing of trees causing landslides and stuff, but I dont think every tree on earth can possibly be destroyed.

If deforestation gets worst and more trees are being cut down, prehaps not all trees will be extinct, maybe a few species of trees?

Anyhoo, as someone said, it's alot faster to cut down alot of trees than to grow new ones to replace them.

Tree Cutting Will Stop Before They Go Extinct.. I think they will be around as long as the planet is.
