No method of transport is safe. YOU CAN DIE on an escalator or in a lift. Use the stairs in future :)

You can die doing anything.

And also, I'd do a little research on this. I wouldnt be surprised if more people die falling down the stairs than on escalators. 400 people die in the bath tub in the US each year. Take showers? 600 people die falling out of bed at night a year. Sleep on the floor?

Theres been a lot of problems with the new Tesco where I live.
They have esculators that don't have stairs, they slope.
People go on it with wheelchairs and get stuck at the bottom, and it jams the esculator.

Yeah, you can die on anything.

That tesco thing..

1. They're travellators.
2. Thats obvious :D Every travellator advertises that people with prams/wheelchair/pacemaker have to use lifts. It the same at Asda in Colchester.

If the "s" word wasn't filtered I would be saying "No s Sherlock"...

You can die doing anything, and it was always possible to die using an esculator and a lift. A lift because they can plummit many floors and an esculator in some cases can get people trapped in them.

You can die taking a shower by slipping into them and breaking a neck or getting caught in curtains, or slipping getting out of them.

600 people die falling out of bed at night a year. Sleep on the floor?
You might die by the floor caving in? Besides, you would probably get servere pain in some areas not sleeping properly or in nice comfortable conditions. Either way, you can't avoid it :P

What about if you acually fell in a lift.. say... from the top of Blackpool Tower :D

Would you still be alive? I mean, the stuff on tose lifts are so old they have to close them like three hours a day just for tests and repairs.

You can die from anything, your computer mght explode and glass shattered in your face killing you, any moent of the day everyday you could die and if we all took that view we would sit in a blank room sitting in the corner. theres no point in worrying about what MIGHT happen.

Cya..

Joke.

Naw, I just won't go in a lift which dosent have a fast-moving counter.. or that has a dude with "hooks" in it, or funny doors, or that look like the lifts at my school, which look like the lifts from the movie FD2.

Someone said you CANNOT die in lifts! Technically your not suppose to, but when you can find a guide and some wire-cutters off eBay, can't stop a maineack.

Haha, I know. Thats my point, really. You can die doing anything, even in the alternative of what you think is dangerous. The more I think about it, I think more people die falling down stairs than on escalators. Old people, kids, and even regular people. You just stand there on an escalator. Just because one major incident happens, it doesnt mean many many smaller ones dont.

Which kind of reminds me of the 9/11 effect. Apparently, when people were scared out of their minds to fly after 9/11, they started driving. And in the 3 monthes after 9/11, there were 1000 more automobil deaths than in past years of the same time period. So just because one huge tragic event happens, doesnt mean the alternative is safer.

You can't stop someone from buying a gun and shooting you on the street either. Are you going to stop walking on the sidewalks now?

Everything in life has its risks. It would just be very unlucky if you died on a lift/escalator.

Well that's too bad cause I live in an 8th floor apartment and have to take the lift everyday. Stairs? No thanks.

Quite an awful way to die though. Especially on an escalator.

My science teacher's dad was a escalator technician. He went in to deep detail about how they work, and they seem very fool proof. In many years of work, the lift had dropped only once, and that was just a test with no one in it, it was just to see something. I dont know what tbh, but oh well...

if you jump just before you hit the floor, will you die? x]

Ya know. When lube turned around and said that I actually thought that's how to make me feel worse, but then again - he's right. I feel fine now, but a good discussion has come on about it.

Hmm.. can you die in a carwash :P

I should get a copy of that scene and show people what actually happened cos loads of people aint seen FD2 :D
_________

Yes you tecnically would crack your head on the celing. They did it on Mythbusters.

As the lift falls it picks up speed, then if you jump, the lift will pull you down.

Jump up, get pushed down by the top of lift :D Rather juft fall to death.

Depends on the speed youre going. Sometimes the elevator drops faster than the people in it, so the people end up on the ceiling. Its kind like that whole "if I throw a ball up in the air in a car, why doesnt it go flying backwards?" question. Plus, the elevator will probably burst into flames anyway.

wow never knew dat.

People's perception of what is dangerous and what isnt is all out of wack these days. I was reading an artical and apparently the evolution of our minds isnt up to speed with the super-technology world we live in. So we fear things that have a miniscule chance of happening, and ignore stuff that is likely. Like there are many many people afraid of flying, yet there's only 1 or 2 major accidents a year, only a few hundred people, if any at all, die a year in plane crashes. But tens of thousands of people die in car crashes each year, but its hard to find someone afraid of driving.

Everything in life is a risk, breathing, walking, going outside, drinking. They can all cause death but if you worry about that, you will die worrying but the chances of dying because of these things is very slim.

Here where I live there was some techinal difficulties on an escalator && these people dropped && got stuck on the escalator because I think not sure if this is correct but it began to speed up really fast && then it suddenly stopped && everyone got stuck. They could've sued but I don't think anyone did. It was in a train station.
