How do you write a billion?
wikipedia states that people use either of two ways.
Billion may mean:
Either of two numbers (see long and short scales (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Long_and_short_scales) for more detail):
1,000,000,000 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1000000000_%28number%29) (one thousand million; 109) - increasingly common meaning in English language usage
1,000,000,000,000 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1000000000000_%28number%29) (one million million; 1012) - increasingly rare meaning in English language usage; standard meaning in many other languages

Wait, I mean the top one.
Bottom one I think is 1 trillion, for the top, the first 3 zero's are 1 thousand, then the next 3 zero's are hundred thousand, then the next 3 zero's are 1 hundred million, and with the next 1, it's a billion.
I think the number billion is 1 million million (1,000,000,000,000) but the money billion is 1000 million (1,000,000,000)

a thousand million.
That makes no sense, haha. The comas are where a new name starts.
And plus, there's 6 billion people on earth, not 6 thousand million.

No the commas occur every 3 numbers, no matter what the number. Technically 1000 should be written 1,000 each time.
And a thousand million is a thousand million, a million million is a billion.

1,000,000,000
just a million with 3 noughts on the end (I think)
that is what i thought, and then as the user above said, the bottom is a trillion (or whatever comes next)

It's the second one, 1,000,000,000,000, the other one is rubbish as it's only a thousand million. If you look at the word, "billion," bi meaning 2, it means a million million. The other one, 1,000,000,000 is the American term and Americans are stupid. However as international currency is shown in $, we also use the American number for a billion when using money as it's smaller. I assume anyway.
Whoever voted the other one, i.e;

You're nubs :), except Redstratocas as he's American so it doesn't count.

I never actually realised how many zeros a billion has. But I made a guess it was the second one anyway.

UK usage
"Billion" has meant 10^9 in some sectors of official published writing for many years now, but this usage is not uniformly accepted. The UK government, the BBC, and most other broadcast or published mass media, use the short scale exclusively in all contexts. Anyone using billion to mean 10^12 in British English may be misunderstood; however the "traditional usage" of a billion to mean 10^12 is not unknown and occasionally taught in some sectors of education.

I think 1 billion is 1,000,000,000.

1 000 000 000 000 is the "traditional useage" of a billion. Twenty thousand million (20 000 000 000) doesn't sound right, so it is twenty billion.
