Probs best to go with what you want mate and what you like instead of going with what others say.
When levelling do quests and read the tips it will help.
Don't listen to people when making a char especially that guy that told you not to be a night elf because loads of people be them, main reason is he is an idiot, loads of people are gnomes, dwarfs, orcs, tauren, blood elf, there are loads of people on all the races so don't be dumb k? :)
Experiment and find what you like the most, I find the Blood elf quests more fun but the human ones are better for beginners

Yeh blood elf quests are good I like there racials aswell.
Yes, but most of the Alliance pick Night Elves. I honestly can't stand starting as one, their area is so dull.
Errr I'll do a little summary on each race.
Alliance
Gnome
Comes first because I'm one. It's sort of an advantage being so small, it's harder to click on you, but some people press tab and scroll through nearby enemies anyway (this is in battlegorunds etc).
They have the stupidest hairstyles, it's why I always wear a hat. Their starting place is pretty cool, but kind of boring, just a desolate snowy place. Being small can be annoying sometimes when people like Jamie bully you about it. They have high voices, and they sound weird for that reason, but it's funny at times. Their dance is kinda cool.
Dwarves
About 1 foot taller than Gnomes, but still quite small. They run weird, they look weird. You have to have a beard. Your accent is scottish, like any stereotypical dwarf. Their starting place is the same as Gnomes, the snowy area. I just don't like dwarves. Fat, usually ginger, need a shave, scottish (no offence to scottish people, but this type of accent is annoying) And they have some weird russian dance.
Humans
They're alright. They have a pretty starting area. But like Gnomes, they don't really have cool hair. It's either long or bald or something. They're average sized, sound normal. Their starting area seems like a bad place to level out of all the alliance sides. I've never actually made a human character due to the fact they remind me of the limitations on runescape. Funky dance though (night fever)
Night Elves
They're pretty cool. Their hair is very long, so you can have some cool does. They have cool skin, purples and blue. Their starting area is very dull, as is all the night elf areas, but a great place to level. They have cool big ears like all elfs, and have a cool jump, and are a nice big 7 foot high. I tend not to like Nelves though. Oh, and they have a cool MJ dance.
Horde (not very descriptive)
Tauren
I think they're the best Horde. They're a huge 8 foot, have a cool peanut butter jelly time dance, but being a big fat bull can get annoying. Their slow run makes the game drag along somehow. Their starting area is very spread out, so I found it hard to level
Undead
Not much experience with these guys, but I leveled very quickly. Awesome moshing dance, cool does, but I'd rather not look like a corpse.
Trolls
I think they look awesome, with their weird snouts and teeth and funky hair. Cool dance too. Not had much experience with them though
Orc
Why the hell would you want to be fat and green? The only good thing about them is their MC Hammer dance.

Tbh starting areas doesn't matter once you get lvl 10 you can go off and train else where, as for hairs you mainly be wearings masks etc also some people pick other classes for there racials not for there looks like orcs have blood fury which increases your attack power and and undead have will of the forsaken which is also cool.

Gnomes are short and fat?
Gnomes are short and fat?
No, they're just short. Dwarves are short and fat.
DO NOT Listen to this guy - Succubus
He is just going on about the characters, look at there special race abilities, they all have different ones, e.g. humans can see stealthed players a lot easier, gnomes have boosted intellect, dwarfs have higher experience with guns (your gun rank is higher)
Night elves can be wisps, pointless though xD I'm not sure on there abilities but I think they have a +5 resistance to nature, not sure on that one though xD
Draeni would rock as warriors because they start with a skill called gift of naaru but you need BC to become a draeni and tbh they look way to ugly to wanna be one xD
I don't know much about the horde side

God lol, don't get aggresive. I'm only tipping him off on looks and dances etc, not racial specs, so you're not exactly proving me wrong, even though you're trying your iddy biddy hardest.

Yeh night elfs have shadowmeld which is pretty good at times but for rogue and druid its useless <3
Undead have will of the forsaken it removed fear and leave you immune? I think or just removes it.

Looks and dances are not important, when you get to level 60-70 what you gonna do in MC? Hope raggy will "boogy down" with you? Show him your "epic" dance moves, that stuff doesn't matter, he'll want to make a char that is good not looks good

Calm down dear.

It's just a game, no need to argue about it.

Yea, I really don't want to know how long you spent looking for that picture but well done on wasting so much time /claps :)
And I'm not arguing, I'm just saying, then again I wouldn't be to surprised if I was arguing with you because there are so many reasons why I should

Don't /clap me, this is a forum not WoW. And I only spent like a minute getting that image, just google imaged 'esure calm down'.
Anyway, stop defending WoW with your life. I picked my Gnome because I wanted to be a lock, and Gnome locks looked cooler than Human locks, and if I was Horde, I couldn't speak with the Jamie crew.
