right as some of you may know i'm planning to go on an expedition to chile in south america summer 2008.

i had my final meeting today, deposit paid, and it's been finalised. if i can raise the money i'm definately going! which i'm already hyped up about, i really can't wait.

but the next big problem, i have to raise £3495 in 15 months :]

i will be getting a job, but obviously that isn't going to pay for it all, and i'd like to have a little money for myself.

so i'm looking for you guys to come up with ways i could raise money?

there are about 15 of us going all together. i can do small group fundraising, big groups, or on my own.

all ideas with a bit of thought put into are highly appriciated :] thanks in advanced.

You mentioned the idea of writing to a company earlier? I think you should try go for that, try and get a business to sponsor you some money :D

I wouldn't go for too big a company, though you could if you want... it's just that your letter would probably get ignored :'(. I don't really know who though, isn't there a relatively large but local company you could try?

i'd do what garion said, send a letter to local businesses and see if they can sponser you. or just have a small fair or what not to raise money, or a small event.

You could hold little things like competitions with like 50p entry fee, or have some mini tuck shop selling some sweets, of course you'd have to buy some but i'm sure you could sell them for a little bit more. And, you could do things like car washes, even though its cold and stuff like that?

But, they all seem a tad childish - could work though.

You'll need to write a long letter explaining what the whole thing is about and why it's good etc; explain you will be helping the poor or w/e. Really sell your idea :D.

Just say that you're going on a expedition to Chile and you need some sponsership money to go, and that it'd be going for a good cause by helping the villages of chile etc etc.

we was thinking about doing a teacher v teacher sumo wrestling, people pay to watch we sell refreshments ect, hold a talent contest, do a sports day where you make a team, pay an entry fee ect.

Get people to sponsor you for skipping around town dressed up as a female(clothing, make-up the lot). Best to do it with a few mates so isn't too embarassing, get mates/teachers/family to sponsor you and then get randomers to sponsor you and tell them to "Watch out for you" on that certain day.

use posh-er words, make sure it looks formal, and then explain briefly what its about, making a couple of points and such, then go into more detail on each point+what its about and the like
once you get writing itll become easier

Dear Mr Branson,

My name is [Insert name] and in 2008 I am going for [however long] to Chille, South America. I am currently looking for help funding my trip.

I am writing to you to kindly ask you to help fund my trip. When I am in Chille I will be helpingthe sick and the poor and visiting several villages to try and make their villages a better place to live.

I believe funding this trip could help get you and your company media coverage in further away places. I would be happy to do something of your choice. For example wear clothes with "Sponsored By Richard Branson/Virgin Records."

I would appreciate any donations you could give to this well intentioned cause.

Yours faithfully,
[Insert Name]

I didn't spend long. Just an idea I came up with. Feel free to use it/add parts/delete parts etc

google ads.

You could get a domain or use a free one like, and then it can be about your trip the causes, how much you need, you can get words of support and get people to sign it and click on the link to google ads, my mate earned alot from google ads so yh.

Or do what Craig said {:

Why don't you clear out your room/loft/attic/shed etc. and ask your family to do likewise.

Sell decent things on ebay (maybe mobile phones or games or something), and then with the other stuff why not go to a car boot sale and sell it? Last year we cleaned out all our loft and me and my dad took the stuff to a car boot sale and got £60. All for junk which was just sitting in our loft doing nothing - you'd be surprised at the crap people actually buy haha.

You could also maybe do a tombola or something? Get a book of raffle tickets and give one each to some prizes, maybe the top prize being a cheap bottle of wine or something - then sell tickets at 20p each or something...

school concert - simple.
we did a school concert to raise money for some students to go to ghana.

just ask the person who does lights in your school if you know them - if not, head of drama.

it's probably a little easier for me though as i am the school lighist, lmao.

that's a really good idea, and you've sparked another idea... we could hold a car boot sale on my school field - it's quite big [if we're allowed] and people could pay, say £5 per pitch ;o

so far we've came up with ideas of 24 hours trampolining, in my school gym in the summer with the supervision of one of the geography teachers, which should be.. fun x] also we're planning to do car washing at lunch & afterschool for the teachers, AND we're doing a bike down the ridgeway over 2 days, it's like loads of miles and stuff

and the bungee jumping is a damn good idea ;o

Lol do you have any idea how much it would cost to actually fund and do the bunjee jump though? By the time you've paid for everything then you will probably be losing more money than your gaining, lol.

You need to do things which are least costly for yourself but with maximised profits.

Write to Barclays, they sponsor anything that makes them look good, cus I done a charity walk with my cousin for diabetes and they said they would double what we raised and we raised in total £500 so they doubled it to £1000 :)

I think you should be sponsored.

Try ASDA or Flora.

I'm being serious.

If you take up the website idea, I can always provide my services free of charge.
