This is my first guide, so please don't yano. Slate me for it :] I do however appreciate constructive critistisms. Also watch my spelling! :p

The Abbyss Members only.

The abbyss on runescape is a quick way to enter any of the runecrafting altars quicker, it has an outer layer where their are monsters which you can kill for pouches, and inside layer where you can find the dark mage. As well as all the portals to the different altars.

Locating the Abbyss

The abbyss is in a dangerous spot, level 5 wilderness just north of edgeville. You can get teleported their by zamorak. You must of finished a quest to do so, I can't remeber which it is sorry :p. You also can buy different runes from him, at quite a cheap price! Which is handy if you don't got your own essance! :]

In the Abbyss Outter layer.

Monsters

On the outer layer of the abbyss are 3 different level creatres.

A leech, level 41.
These creatures hit a max of 2. So no real threat, apart from their high attack which means with quite a low defence you'll get hit multiple times. They're also very fast at hitting and hit you about 2x as a schimitar.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v178/mitch__is__the__best/yeahh.jpg

A guardian, level 59.
These creatures have quite a high attack and strength for their combat, but also have a low/medium defence. They can hit up to an 11 i've seen. So these are a bit of a pain.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v178/mitch__is__the__best/walka.jpg

A walker, level 81
These creatures have a really high defence. It's quite hard to hit them, but they also have a low attack level. So you won't be damaged to often by them. They also hit a max of 13, or so i've seen.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v178/mitch__is__the__best/yem0n.jpg

All three monsters drop the same type of things, these involve:

Pouches

Talismans

Binding necklaces

Pure essance, both normal and noted.

Clue level 2

I think, but not certain they're the only way to get pouches. Other than the small one which you can obtain from the dark mage in the centre of the abbyss. Each monster only gives you 1/3 of the normal xp you'd get for hitting each one. So don't try and train down here. It's also a multicombat area, so you could have about 10 of these pesky little creatures hitting you at once!

How to enter the inner layer

There are a few essentials with each trip. I reccomend having 40/50+ Agility, 40/50+ Theiving, 60+ Woodcutting, 50+ mining, Firemaking 40/50+. There are multiple places on the inner side of the outter layer circle that allow you access into the centre. Bring a bronze axe, bronze pickaxe and a tinderbox.

Agility obstacle

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v178/mitch__is__the__best/RS1.jpg

Mining obstacle

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v178/mitch__is__the__best/RS5.jpg

Woodcutting obstacle

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v178/mitch__is__the__best/RS4.jpg

Firemaking obstacle

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v178/mitch__is__the__best/RS3.jpg

Theiving obstacle

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v178/mitch__is__the__best/RS2.jpg

You can fail the obstacle, and either click on it again to try again. Or run to a different obstacle. If you fail the obstacle in your message box, it'll tell you. But if you've got past it, the screen will change it's angle. Then you'll be chucked inside the centre of the abbyss!

In the Abbyss Inner layer.

Congratts man! You've made it to the inner layer, you've made it past the pk'ers and the monsters. Even the obstacles, theres nothing to stop you now! :]
Once you're here, it's completly safe. There are no monsters to bother you, just walk around the circle and choose the 'rift' you want. The rift is the teleportation device into the altar.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v178/mitch__is__the__best/rs00.jpg

Once exited through the rift, you're at the altar. And you CAN'T get back to the abbyss without going back to Edgeville.

My reccormended items to take.

Remeber this is just what i reccomend, it doesn't have to be entirely true :]

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v178/mitch__is__the__best/rcitems.jpg

All the pouches you can take (one of each size)

Good food, incase of pkers.

Weilded bronze wc axe

bronze pick axe

Tinderbox

Pure essance in pouches and in inventory.

With anything, you can vary the items you take! I tend to use bronze just incase of pkers. You get tons of free bronze pickaxe's at castlewars also!

My Reccomended items to wear

Once again this varies on what you can afford etc.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v178/mitch__is__the__best/RS50.jpg

Some rubbish armour, about iron-adament. Only take what you're prepared to loose. I use black because i think it's enough with 62 defence. The glory is also optional if you're only doing once journey and are going to take telly runes.

Tips and tricks

If at edgeville you go north east across the bridge, then up to the top where zamorak is, you'll have much more chance of not getting pk'd.
Remeber the abbyss drains your prayer once entered. So you can't use a protect from prayer.
Only 1/3 xp is giving for each hit that you'd normally deal. So this is not a good place to train.
You don't need to take no tiarars or talismans.
All the monsters have the equal number of drop rate on all their items.
If you forget a charged glory, telly to lumbridge, visit the bank and get our your charged one.
The astral altar cannot be accesed via. the abbyss

I hope this guide helped you! It took me a while, but it was worth it. I'm also like not the best person at remebering things. So if i leave anything out please tell me :] Thanks x mitch

It's best to wear Dragonhide armour when going through the Abbyss because alot of PKers use Freeze spells before attacking, Melee armour gives you a low magic defence and gives them the advantage.

Nice guide though.

It's a Mini-quest, not on the quest list.

Talk to the Zamorak mage in edgeville wildy.

The reason you take 3 food is if your about level 75-90 theres loads of mage pkers. And you die with less than 3 food.

Thanks guys for the good comments + cc

A way to not bring food or prayer pots is to bring the great ECTOPHIAL!

I recommend just bringing a pickaxe as there are 3 mining obstacles (which is more than the others)

You should redo dark mage picture. Cant see him lol.

I completely disagree with your recommended items:

Use the best dragonhide you can. Ive been using green due to my range level for a while, and its cheap, easy to get and is a great defence against pkers. Since the area around the abyss is single combat, it is easy to avoid pkers by attacking skeletons on the way up.

I would also weild the pickaxe and bank the wc axe, because if you always either spawm between 2 agility obstacles or 2 rocks, so if you take an axe youll be spending more time in the abyss, and therefore have a greater risk of dying. The food is also unnecessary unless youre a pure, I have never taken food and never died in the abyss itself.

You should mention having lots of glories and a games necklace in your bank to avoid lots of trekking to recharge, and to always carry a ring of dueling in case you forget to charge your glory or swap for a charged one (it happens a lot, and you cant always rely on homeport).

Other than that, a good guide. Maybe mention the alternate abyss accessed through fairy rings?

Very nice guide, but the writing is too small and you need to correct the spelling and grammar mistakes, if you do that I will move it (or another mod will). :D
