Yes you can but 1&1 is crap. I have a few domains with them, you cant transfer them to other users and the support is shocking.

All ive had with 1and1 are good experiances, maby becausewe are all minors and they are meant to sell domain/hosting etc... to adults, my mum and dad pay 1and1 for my hosting and for me they responded within a few hours :S
1and1 suck. I had my first hosting account with them and it takes days for the domain to be setup, the support is rubbish (Email support takes like 5 days to get a reply and the telephone support is some guy in india who does not have a clue what he is talking about) and the control panel they give you sucks.
had my worst experiance with 1and1. Support seems to be based in asia whenever i callup

I find them OK - but it is true that I only have experience with them for domains. The main problem is that they are slow to register things, but other than that, they've been fine for me.

Speed-networks.net for hosting
namecheap.com or godaddy.com for domains.
My domain was up and active in a few hours
