i really hate my teeth. i've always been self-consious (sp?) about them.
they have a tint of yellow in all of them, even though i brush them twice a day (morning & night).
the toothpaste i use is colgate whitening (recommend better one if nessersary).
is this normal? or should i go ahead with my plan of getting them whitened at the dentist?
my friend had them whitened, and it didn't do much of a difference, but you could still see it had made them whiter. and if it does that it will definately boost up my confidence.
i also want braces.
i've asked and told my mum about my decision and she said shes okay about it.
i havent had a dentist appointment in a LONG time, so i want to see what they're going to say first.
my front two teeth are fine, but the two teeth next to them (forgotten name), are quite off track, and so are some of my other teeth.
i only want my top row of teeth doing though, not my bottom.
and if i do get them, get anybody recommend what colour i should get for them and what type?
thanks so much for reading.

i reccomend you DO get braces, i have them and my teeth are straiiiiiiight!
Also about the whitening DO NOT whiten your teeth BEFORE you get a brace, if you get 1, because its better to have your teeth whitened when you have straight teeth than when u have a brace on. You can't see my brace so i'm lucky xD
DO NOT get white as white turns a pale green, you can get white if you wish ofc xD
they show u a selection of colours, jus ask them whixh they reccomend.

i have braces & they drive me mad but ill be glad when i get them off, i'd get them.
Braces aren't a choice, the dentist decides, not you :)
IF you get braces they whiten your teeth first anyway so yeah, braces are uncomfortable but the outcome is brilliant. Also you don't choose what type. It's either head brace [worst] retainer [removable and not like ordinary braces, by the looks of things if you get them you'll have one of these] "traintracks" are the painful ones, most people get them for fashion now they ask someone to hit them and wonky their teeth to get braces, I know a few people who have done that.
Remember, it's not your choice. Also color wise don't have black or white or yelllow ;]

you may be talking from experience or not,
but you have a say in whether you want braces or not, i know, because my friend has them.
she has black & blue traintracks.
i'd obviously get a retainer, because my teeth aren't that bad for a head thingmabob.
and if i want braces, and talk to my dentist about it, i'm sure he'd come to an agreement about it.
so i do have a say in it. its my mouth. :/
yes, I'm speaking from experience, no need to get shirty, I'm explaining the facts .

yes,
i know yr explaining the facts, & i thankyou for that.
but i'm making it clear that i'll have what i want in my mouth,
and that my dentist cant force me to have a brace if i didnt want to (even though i do anyway).
& that if i want braces, and that my dentist understands why and sees why, i'm sure he'd let me.
because at the end of the day, its me & my family who are paying the money for it etc.

I see what you mean. My 2 front teeth are perfect but the 2 next to them are slighty offlined. But its up to the dentists whether you get braces or not, unless you paying for them. And the number of patients that dentists can give bracess to through the NHS has dropped, so not everyone will get them.
Im also getting my teeth whitened soon because i have heriitory yellow teeth

If you're thirteen how come you're having to pay? :o I thought the NHS provided for people under 18 in Full Time education.
Just tell them it's affecting your self-esteem e.t.c. and see what they'd do. Although you've more chance selling sand to the arabs these days than getting any form of treatment from the NHS.

there is a criteria and if your teeth are not wonkey enough like mine nearly wernt you don't fall in to the nhs criteria which means you have to pay for yourself

That's a complete rip off and exactly why the majority of the people in this country are being robbed.
If you're not entitled to treatment on the NHS, then fair enough - They are stretched. But if that means you have to go elsewhere for this treatment then you should be reimbursed at least 50% of the money that you paid to go private.
Everyones' parents pay tax (well the majority) so it's not fair that they then have to pay private ON TOP of paying the health service that they won't actually be using because the national health service can't provide what they need.

Same lol :D.
I've had mine 3 months now and to be honest I can hardly feel them. They just rub against my lip every so often which is annoying.
Just think that it's a short time to have it considering your teeth will be good for the rest of your life.

eeek ok, i have braces, have silver, trust me, other colours discolour your teeth, and in some cases, have them on longer. if you do get the whitened, have it after, braces can leave marks.

You have a say in whether you don't want them or not. You can't just say that you want them. Also, you'll only get them if you really need them and so if you don't but insist on having them, you'll most probably have to pay the fee or £2-3,000 which wouldn't be covered by the NHS.
Also, white are okay. :( I had them. :P
Black and yellow are tha worst k.

My teeth are v. wonky, so when I FINALLY get rid of my baby teeth (NEARLY THERE!), I'm having braces. I can't flaming wait. When I grow up and earn a mazillion quid, I'll probably look into whitnening treatment.

yeah. i mean, i know they will be annoying sometimes, and they will rub against my lip (like you said), but its the fact that after i have them my teeth may be perfect. and if i do get them, and that happens. i can't wait.
thanks. (+rep when i can give you some).

i think i want to get silver anyway. i don't think any different colours would suit me or my teeth anyway.
(thanks for the advice, +rep when i can).

thanks. tbh, i'd never think about getting yellow anyway. the reason i don't want white is that they'll make my teeth look yellow, and i dont want that. then again, i don't know that for sure, i'm just suspecting.
and i don't want black braces, they'd make my teeth look rotten :/

the friend of mine, sarah, that got her teeth whitened is not exactly 'rich' lets say. and she could pay for them easily. so i'm sure they don't cost that much.. well, hopefully.
i didn't know you had to wait until you get all your permanent teeth for braces?

yeah. i'm worried that if i get braces, and then when i take them off. i'll miss them too much. haha. how long are they most likely to stay on for, do you think? or can't you tell me because it depends on how bad your teeth are?
thanks, i think i'll have silver braces if i get them.

I'm getting them in about 6 - 8 weeks, if it makes your teeth better when your older then it's worth it.
Have you had that putty mould done yet?

Yeah you have to have that like, pinky putty thing to be able to get your braces moulded good or whatever. After you have to have a night retainer too which you need moulded again and that is what I'm on until May I think.

1) They only rubbed on my lip for like, a week or so. You get this wax stuff to put on the part of the brace that is rubbing so it'll be fine.
2) I meant Silver. :P Lol. You have silver the first time that they are tightened and on the second visit and the following visits you have a choice in colour. I stayed with silver. :P
3) Yeah you need all adult teeth for them. If they show no signs of coming out for adult ones to grow you get an anesthetic to numb your gum or whatever and they're pulled out. My brother needed 2 pulled out and is ready for his braces.
4) Well, my teeth weren't that bad and I got mine put on in early February 2006 and got them taken off October 2006. As your teeth aren't that bad either and are better than mine were, you'll probably have them on for around 6-7 months I'm guessing?
So yeah...

My Braces Are Worse Than Ugly bettys (Seriously, Very Big Squares On Each Tooth) I had To Get Them Because I had To many Teeth, It Was Hereditory. The Dentist/Othodontist Say Don't Eat this And That, But As Long As You Be Careful You Can Eat Pretty Much Everything. Care For Them (Brushing) Only Takes Around 4 Minutes More Than Usual, So Why Not Get Em! They Really Do Work. I have Had Mine For Uh..... 3 Months?, And You Can Notice A Difforence Already. Also Get Them Whitened AFTER You Get Them Off. Mines Off In 2 Years, Then Retainers For 1, Then Freedom! Woooooooooooo Go Fudge & Toffee!

I used to want braces when i was younger to straighten my teeth at like 12-13 and i was ready to have them, all the baby teeth gone. But they kept changing my dentist when the old one was about to get me in contact with a place where they specialise in braces and it was too expensive to go private. So now i'm 14, nearly 15 and they want to put braces on me but now they're just a lot less appealing when they say it may take a year for the full process, so i refuse to have them. I would have had them two years ago though.
In my opinion the health care system has failed me. I'll wait untill i'm older and [hopefully] wealthy enough to BUY new teeth - aha.

if u do get ur teeth whitended, make sure u do it about a month AFTER ur braces are taken off. my teeth used to be perfectly white but when i got braces they stained them slightly once they got removed cos of the glue or something. its worth the pain and stuff tho, i had private brace treatment for 2 years then train tracks for another year. they are practically perfectly straight now so all the pain was well worth it ;D
