European PS3 will play less PStwo/PSone games than the American and Japanese versions.

But the European PS3 utilises a new combination of hardware and software emulation in which software takes over some of the functionality that was previously taken care of by dedicated chips.

Less chips in the european PS3? Is this just limited to backward-compatibility or are there other pars of the console that will 'cut-back?'

Will the 'different (internal) design' mean that some games will take longer (or never will be) ported to the european console?

discuss!

I heard about this, different chip set coming too....

It shouldn't make too much of a difference.

I think it could cause problems in the future, maybe.

I'm not happy about the cutback on the number of PS2 games that will be playable. However if software is taking the job of something that dedicated chips did, then that means the European PS3s will have whatever function being carried out updateable through firmware updates. Chips can't/won't be updated.

yeah, but they might not have been the only chips taken out. Other chips which might have been utilised in the future may have been taken out (making some games in the USA and Japan not compatible or 'port'able to the EU version).

Sony would not make an error of that sort, the European PS3's will be able to run ps3 games the exact same as the USA equivalents. The US/Jap versions will be the same as the EU versions in the future, they are all being changed,.

Lol, fanboy ? I think it will be better, as it will be harder to hack the PS3 if they sign all the code like in the 360 ?

Just for the record, I have no intention of buying a PS3 or an Xbox 360 or Wii.
