Didn't someone prove this was ripped back whent the shortlist was released? Well anyway, I remember a few on the list were much better than this one.... it doesn't really gel with Habbo. The only Habbo image on it is distorted lol.

Congratulations to the winner all the same. :)

Btw was this ever announced on Habbo?

No, this one was made by the creator.

The one that won - that was proved to be ripped never won the prize so we won in the end.

This was second winner I guess so well done but...

That doesn't half make their site look unprofessional.

Give the guy a break. It was a habbo based competition that does attract kids in the range of 12-16 year olds. If i do say so myself i think that is pretty good considering such a young age orientated community.

Those who say they could do better most probably couldn't. We all start somewhere don't we, and as time progresses you learn new skills and techniques. I say well done to the guy at least he didn't rip his layout. An honest competition entry i must say.

I'm forced to disagree.

I know many people aged 12-16 who can produce a masterpiece via the work of web design.

If you look at most of the fansites on the .de hotel and .ch then you shall see what skills are widely available on the world of Habbo.

Comparing to other countries is a tricky debate. Depends on the background the person has.

Put it straight. It's not horrible is it? I was going to say there are few that could do better of course. You will always get the talent somewhere anywhere. But it remains to be seen whether they applied or not.

But some who are saying freewebs is better are just over exaggerating. It's not about freewebs or all that. It's the concept of it. Can you really imagine a company using a freewebs template? It's not bad but i can imagine the competition wasn't as popular to attact that talent you're talking about. It obviously came out best on all the other entries. Although you are right in some aspect.

This isn't being big headed, myself and several other people that I know could create a better template on freewebs in 10 minutes.

The coding is terrible and as for the presentation, well, let's just leave it.

Let's not compare to other countries then - I still know many that can put together a good website layout.

Agreed. I don't think it was a question of whether you can or cannot do better. Probably the competition wasn't advertised thoroughly enough.

I admit, that there wasn't enough promotion of this competition as I have seen some of the entries that weren't even sent off and they were of excellent, high quality and quite frankly - deserved to win.

In a competition - it's a question of whether you can do better than the other competitors in the competition, so I guess it is.

All in all - Rare Communications have ended up looking more unprofessional than before imo.

That was a mouthful.
I did doubt at one point whether rare communications was even a business/company. It's a big risk for a coroporation to even consider letting 12-16 year olds to design their website. Customers of any sort have to see presentation and surely a proffessional would be better off doing the job.

I think lots of people on this forum could do better, it's just a iFrame on a very basic template. You could do this on MS frontpage, make lots of tables and images and insert a iframe at the bottom.

I agree, looks like a freewebs template.
I've seen better looking freewebs templates

The UK is generally not to bad at making websites, we're not a country in poverty where barely anyone uses the internet and understands HTML.

Lol I agree. That's the skill of web design, lol at that! LOADS of fansites are much better than that, presentation and coding wise.

It's very hard the iFrames in IE as you have to scroll down in a annoying way if you see what I mean? Plus the website is pretty useless to the average person over than the contact page.

I never ever said we were a country in poverty i said if you compare us to another country it can be tricky. Some countries in europe can be more developed than the uk in terms of computing and ict. This is a known fact and i have read this before in the newspaper. I didn't say we were a country in poverty. We are a very wealthy country but that isn't to say we're developed more than every other country in europe.

When they announced the winner - one of the templates was ripped - and iy was posted on here.

So around 5 people emailed them and they found an alternative winner (H).

That's what I mean by 'we' - the people who emailed.

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing, as a my age is here year-old, to tell you that I believe for your key demographic - your site layout is very poor. I inderstand a winning design from Habbo Hotel was chosen, however, this design is apalling. I believe your idea for the site was for it to be 'funky, yet professional', and you have rather remarkably achieved the exact opposite, a feat to be congratulated on. Specialising in Entertainment, children and family markets, you need a website that doesn't look like a three year old child using Microsoft FrontPage 98 created it, saving images in possibly the worst possibly way (as JPGs).

Please, however, do not take this email as a personal insult. Many of my peers feel the same way (http://habboxforum.com/showthread.php?t=319512 - while you're there may I suggest looking into the 'Web Design' forums too) and you are very far off-base. If you wish for your company to acheive success, you have to change. Your website is the first thing most clients will see - and do you want them to judge you as being, and I quote from the aforementioned link "poop", "pants", "unprofessional", "crap", "rubbish", "freewebs", "noobs", the list goes on.

See sense and hire someone.

Kindest regards,

They looked at the entries and went, right, firstly we want one that looks SO good it could have been ripped off a templates site...

*Entry is complained about*

Damn... That strategy didn't work. Brian, it's time.

Brian: But, no, you don't mean...

Yes I do, Brian. Bring out... Stevie Wonder

Stevie: I picks this entry, fool.

*Entry is complained about*

I say, get a monkey to fling poo to pick the next entry. Hey, you never know, the templates may look better that way.

EDIT: Why is the correct term for 'Poo' filtered?

Awesome, I find it appauling they picked a design, then uploaded it with a JPEG format.

I could do that in two minutes on paint and notepad or frontpage just drawing it with the tools, how sad... how very sad. A respectable company with that layout, im not saying simple layouts are bad.. but that one?
