A newly-qualified driver on Teesside has lost his licence after being caught driving over the alcohol limit only one day after passing his test. The 19-year-old from Redcar had gone out drinking and after a short sleep drove to collect a friend.
He was stopped by police, breathalysed, and found to be twice the legal limit.
A few days later he appeared before Guisborough Magistrates' Court charged with drink-driving and was disqualified for 12 months.
He was also fined £150 plus £45 costs.
Insp Eric Robinson, head of Cleveland's road policing unit, said: "This incredible case is possibly the shortest length of time that anyone has ever held a driving licence and is a sobering thought for other drivers who think they will be OK to drive after a night out.
"This incident shows that we constantly look out for any driver who we suspect is under the influence of drink or drugs and deal with them accordingly."
