http://newsimg.bbc.co.uk/media/images/42623000/jpg/_42623481_nspccbody.jpgThe BBC news has listed an article on the NSPCC teaming up with Habbo Hotel for a three month visit. There will be celebrity visitors (which was posted on the Habbo site) but they seem to be some of the NSPCC ambassadors who are going to be attending, which could be any of these guys:

The last NSPCC event/campaign they hosted seems to have attracted a lot of visitors/views - This campaign is focused on anti-bullying

"The NSPCC has previously run an awareness campaign called "Don't Hide It" which was seen by more than 13,897,991 Habbo residents."

NSPCC books in to virtual hotel

http://newsimg.bbc.co.uk/media/images/42623000/jpg/_42623481_nspccbody.jpg Thousands of teenagers visit Habbo Hotel

Children's charity The NSPCC is to set up home in a virtual hotel.

It hopes that its three-month stay in Habbo Hotel - a virtual community for children - will allow it to reach out to a new audience.

The charity will host events and activities on the website aimed at getting young people involved in its various campaigns.

Other organisations - such as the anti-drugs charity Frank are also planning a presence in Habbo.

Celebrity ambassadors
Habbo Hotel has particular appeal to teenagers and was one of the first virtual communities when it began in 2000 in Finland. It pre-dates other virtual worlds such as Second Life and social networking sites such as MySpace and Bebo.

In the Habbo Hotel users create avatars (or Habbos), buy furniture to furnish their own rooms in the hotel and talk to others in the community via instant message.

Habbo Hotel UK now attracts 750,000 unique users each month, aged 11-18. There are localised Habbo communities in 29 countries. The company behind Habbo said that as of December 2006 more than 66 million Habbos have been created around the world.

The NSPCC has previously run an awareness campaign called "Don't Hide It" which was seen by more than 13,897,991 Habbo residents.
For its latest campaign, the charity aims to drive traffic to its website, as well as encourage users to take part in polls and design an anti-bullying themed room. NSPCC celebrity ambassadors will also hang out in the hotel for certain events.

NSPCC are for the child audience, teenagers of which also come into that and are one of the main targets for the NSPCC therefore wouldn't it make sense for the NSPCC to come to a large, popular chat room where you would find a variety of teenagers with their seperate problems. I think it is good that NSPCC are coming to the hotel yet again, but really there should be a sort of department for Habbo Hotel in NSPCC or to be more general, the teenage MMOCC market. Many people will benefit from the NSPCC's latest visit, Habbo partially as it is advertisement and promotion for themselves and of course, for the teenagers who did not get a say in the last NSPCC visit.

I just hope that the NSPCC use their resources within Habbo to full effect so that most of the teenagers which did not get a chance to speak their minds on the last visit, get to do so on the NSPCC's 2nd outing. Good on Sulake for being aware of child abuse and trying to sponsor it by using their main product, Habbo Hotel. :)

As for the celebrity ambassadors part, I guess thats a benefit for the people who go onto Habbo Hotel who do not want to contact NSPCC, but they just want to meet their idols. I cant remember who the ambassadors were but I do remember that Rio Ferdinand may have been one of them, unless I'm thinking of a different campaign. Imagine that, Rio Ferdinand in Habbo Hotel. :')

One thing which is circulating my mind is this question, why haven't Sulake contacted CEOP (Child Explotation and Online Protection) Centre to come onto the hotel to promote the already well-known (by safety sponsors) campaign, ThinkuKnow. That has really shocked me to say the least! Well, good move Sulake on the NSPCC and fantastic article by the BBC and last but not least, +rep for Antony for reporting this news. :)
