Personally, I like SMF as it has a friendly community and quite alot of features for a free forum.

I'll say phpBB because there is such a huge community of support and tons of stuff you can do with your board.

Also, the new phpBB is looking really great!

i would say phpbb as there new phpbb3 is getting there all most RC well getting closs to it.
