A duck was killed after a youth shot it in the head with a crossbow.
The duck was targeted as it swam in the River Leam where it flows through the park at Newbold Comyn, Leamington Spa, Warwickshire, on Saturday afternoon.

A witness reported seeing three youths, aged 15 to 17, by the river. After shooting the duck they ran off towards Radford Semele.

One male, described as being of mixed race, was seen hiding the crossbow under his black coat.

The two with him were white and wore jeans.

poor duckie :(

Oh come on, it's only a duck? And don't scream "oh you have no care for animals" I'd have the same reaction if it was a person, and don't scream "oh I can't believe you have no care for a human life", it's worth the same as a duck's life.

nah, it was rather humane.

skinning the duck alive, then slowly taking bits of its body off then buring it is 'sick'

I'd think people would care more if it was a human?

Not illegal in the UK, no license required just age restriction.

Ye but you'd expect youthes to have a gun or a knife or something, crossbow isn't the ideal weapon.

Its the next best thing to a gun, guns are expensive and if caught with it your buggered. With a crossbow maybe a fine community service, short sentence possibly.

Yea.. maybe a BB gun or whatever but a Crossbow thats pretty unusual :l i think its pretty harsh since the duck didnt do nothing but as some1 said it is just 1 duck...

But its just as bad. If you are meat eater, you are promoting the slaughtering of animals. If it wasnt killed now, it would be on your table next week.

They raise ducks to be slaughtered, not go to the local river.

That cruel... I vote, we shoot them with a crossbow. Knowing these youths, or chavs as they seem, we should shoot them in the man area, then leave them to run around in pain, then shoot them in the head with a cross bow. Or legalise chav hunting.

Go suck on a brussel sprout. I eat meat because it is:

1. Best source for nutrition.
2. Tasty.

I do not eat meat to promote the slaughtering of animals "/ I eat meat because I can and I will "/ So, go play in a vegetable garden.

Not really, by eating meet, slaughter houses have to kill more animals to make up for demand. If you didnt want animals the be slaughtered, you just simply wouldnt eat meet.

You would think so but if they are raising lamb, rather than let it live and cost them more money to feed, they'd just kill it. Cheaper I would've thought.

yes that is what they do. They wait until it reaches a certain weight before they slaughtered it. But if they realise theres a fall in the market, the next time they get theres baby lambs in, they wont order as many, therefore not as many will be killed

Well, as it stands, vegetarians don't seem to be affecting small time farms. Although there has been a surge of numbers. Heck, my sister turned veggie because she watched babe.

rofl. it's sad that someone just shot a duck, but it's still just one duck. Still - if we all went out and shot one duck with a crossbow saying, "Oh it's just one duck.." :x that'd be a bit bad, right?

&I'm not a vegitarean. I don't support slaughtering animals, but... It's healthier, right?
I have a vego friend, she's been one for about a year now. It's terrible, she eats no meat whatsoever. Her hair is now falling out and her skin is definatley not as good as it was ages ago.

(But also adding to that certain state, she barely eats due to a phobia of getting fat. WTH?!)
