New GTA IV facts

The lead character is called Niko Bellic, an Eastern European who comes to the US searching for the good old American Dream

Niko's cousin Roman will provide the incentive for your early missions - he's lied to Niko about having a perfect life in Liberty City, when actually he's massively in debt and in trouble with vicious thugs.


Roman's dingy taxi firm is your initial base of operations, but you'll be able to live a far more flexible life and carve out your own path in ways we've not seen in previous GTA's.


Liberty City will change fundamentally when the sun goes down - with different pedestrians, and more dangers, appearing on the streets.


Four of New York's boroughs are fully replicated - Queens is 'Dukes'; The Bronx is 'Bohan'; Brooklyn is 'Broker'; Manhattan is 'Algonquin'. Part of New Jersey is included as 'Alderney'.


There's nothing outside of Liberty City, with no empty countryside or desert areas. Rockstar instead are focusing on ramming every inch of the city with believable, dynamic life.


Pedestrians are aware of their surroundings, and you'll see lots of different faces doing lots of different things: smoking, sitting, talking on the phone...


Physics plays a huge part, with Niko's movements affected by the world around him - his walk, for instance, is influenced by the slope of the pavement, or any rubble on the ground.


Rockstar big cheese Dan Houser says: "The world is not designed to be a video game. We are trying to make a video game that feels like the world, but still plays like a video game".

I quite like the sound of some of these new features, and how Rockstar are going for a different approace towards the characters role, it's about time we got a proper GTA when your character doesn't want to be in all the mess of crime, the thing about planes is a bit disapointing but hopefully it'll be just like New York

if i remember correctly, vick vance in gta: vice city stories didn't want to be stuck in crime.

Yea but in my opinion LCS and VCS are not real GTA games, GTA, GTA2, GTA3 and GTA4 are the only real GTA's, everything else is just a side project to me :P

That's a real dissapointment there are no planes and no wide open spaces. I was hoping for some much better planes like in SA. Did rockstar announce the lack of planes officialy?

Do you know if you can still
- Buy up lots of property with missions/tasks and things
- customise your outfit and cars
because they made SA and Vice city better. In Vice city I liked how you could rob a store and especially the proper bank robery. I hope that will be available in GTA 4. Not only that but I want buildings that you could like, drive a car into and it would show some damage but I don't expect that at all. *+*+*+*DREAMZ*+*+*+*

Maybe the big ships will make up for the planes.

I heard there are airplanes but in the air, also police helicopters/press helicopters land after a while so you can steal them while on the run, also same as sa you have to eat/drink/ and you also sweat so you have to have showers each few days.

I think the plane idea causes a problem for them. They want to make it realistic, and flying into a building which causes no damage other than to you, the passengers and the plane isn't very realistic...

Does sound like fun though :D I just need to decide to get an Xbox or a PS3. My bets on Xbox.

Yeah I remember that building. It's near the police chopper on the island with the arena. I think it's near a police station, fire station and save place. With the little office cubicles? That's a good one. Planes were great with SA especially the big one. Another thing I miss from vice city is that gun and that mission where you use the gun. The one with Lance in the chopper and you fly around the island with the gang houses and movie studio and shoot people. Awesome weapon.

I hope there are malls and things in IV too. So many possibilities.

When GTA 3 came out, I was nearly certain that they were following GTA 1 places, like when you raise a certain amount of money you go to a new place. San Andreas was one of the places I believe and Vice City was the another too.

Do you remember the Mafia Warlord person in GTA 3, who had the house on the cliff side? That was my favourite GTA place. A nice mansion, on a hill top, over looking the southern ocean. It was a sanctuary from many police chases :)

the very first gta on ps1 had a few different places on it. the main one being liberty city i think. plus this gta is more realistic and looks better so i don't have a problem of them using liberty city / new york

Ah excellent, I didn't make up what I said. In GTA 1, you start in Libery City, then go to Vice City and then to San Andreas I think. It was either after a certain amount of money you went to a different island, or you drove, I can't remember that far back :P

I haven't played GTA1 in a very long time but from what I remember it had a mission selection screen, when you completed one area you unlocked the next one, then the next, I'm pretty sure the original was point based aswell xD

No, GTA is fine, Fable is good as a one of a kind game thank you very much =]
It wouldn't work, Rockstar is sort of...Story orientated, Fable you choose, apart from the main quest but that you even get choices whether to do it evil or good

Ahh I get you, well according to some of the things I've read about it people do react to you, maybe not like right at the start but as you progress up the gang ladder maybe people on the streets will begin to fear you, I wouldn't mind that really, even if Rockstar ripped the hell out of Fable it'll still be the best game I've ever played, I remember getting that on xbox, completed it in no time, then kept playing over and over again, Fable 2 looks promising :P

Lol, wikipedia has alot of info on what Lionhead hope to include, just reading it made me decide to buy the game when it comes out, and I donno about pets in GTA but hey, it could happen, we've only seen a small part of what it includes and it's a very small part judging the amount of work they've put into it
