Hello everyone
I live in South East Kent, in a small town called Folkestone. This morning, at 8:15am, I woke up because an earthquake hit! I jumped out of bed, got dressed and ran down the street cause I was so scared. I have never been in an earthquake before!! It measured 4.7 on the Richter Scale, and my fish tank fell over and electric was off for few hours. There was also a gas leak. Check Sky News, you will see LIVE IMAGES of our town, including MY HOUSE :O! My chimmeny fell down aswell, I saw that on TV. Anyone ever been in an earthquake? I was so scared, I heard mum shouting "SEAN GET UP ITS AN EARTHQUAKE!!"
UPDATE - Looked on news, and I see my friend from school waving at camera!! OMG wow its the road I am in!!
Btw, it says living in London on my profile, but I move recently from London.
Edit - Must go now earthquake due in 10 minuites we getting evacuated CHECK NEWS IF U DONT BELIEVE!!!!!
Thanks!

Earthquake shakes parts of Kent
http://newsimg.bbc.co.uk/media/images/42859000/jpg/_42859185_firefighter_getty203b.jpg The earthquake damaged several homes in Folkestone
An earthquake with a magnitude of at least 4.3 has shaken parts of Kent, damaging buildings and disrupting electricity supplies.
Emergency services have received reports of structural damage including cracked walls and fallen chimneys in Folkestone and nearby areas.
The British Geological Survey said the tremor, which occurred at 0818 BST, had its epicentre out in the Dover Straits.
It said it was the largest quake in the UK since the one in Dudley in 2002.
The earthquake was reportedly felt as far afield as Essex, East Sussex and Suffolk.

Witnesses' accounts (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/6602713.stm)
EDF Energy said it had managed to restore electricity to most of the several thousand homes left without power in the Folkestone and Dover area.
Scottish and Southern Energy, which supplies gas to the area, said it was investigating 300 "possible gas escapes".
"Obviously there is a smell about and people have been reporting it and we have to attend every single report," a spokesman said.
"But at the moment we are not sure if it is natural gas brought up by the earthquake, which can happen, or leaks from pipes."
Significant tremor
David Booth of the British Geological Survey said the tremor, which lasted a few seconds, was of a sizeable magnitude.
"It's certainly the largest in the UK since an earthquake in Dudley in the West Midlands in 2002 and that also caused damage. So this is a very significant tremor."
http://newsimg.bbc.co.uk/media/images/42859000/gif/_42859199_kent_offshore_qua_203.gif
Dr Brian Baptie, also of the British Geological Survey, told BBC News 24 that the epicentre was seven miles (12km) south of Dover, out in the English Channel.
Randy Baldwin from the US Geological Survey, which monitors earthquakes, said the tremor had a preliminary magnitude of 4.7.
Kent Fire and Rescue Service said it had received more than a 100 emergency calls and was having to deal with "several incidents".
Most of these were reports of structural damage, but a fire engine had also been sent to Folkestone to investigate a "smell of gas".
A Eurostar spokesman said everything was running normally in the Channel Tunnel.
Violent shaking
Sharon Hayles, from Stanford near the Eurotunnel terminal at Folkestone, said her house slid from side to side for about 10 to 15 seconds.
Another Folkestone man told BBC Five Live Breakfast that his whole house "shook quite violently".
http://newsimg.bbc.co.uk/shared/img/o.gifQUAKES IN THE UK
December 2006 - Dumfries and Galloway (3.5 on Richter scale)
September 2002 - Dudley, West Midlands (5.0)
October 2001 - Melton Mowbray (4.1)
September 2000 - Warwick (4.2)
April 1990 - Bishop's Castle, Shropshire (5.1)
July 1984 - Nefyn, north Wales (5.4)
June 1931 - in North Sea near Great Yarmouth (6.1)
Eyewitness Lorraine Muir said: "We've been evacuated by the Sally Army; we've got no gas or electricity."
Paul Smye-Rumsby, who lives in Dover, said: "It was about 08.15 when suddenly the bed shook violently.
"I thought my wife had got cramp or something but then I saw the curtains were moving and the whole house was shaking. It lasted about 1.5 seconds. "All the power is off and we have got the portable radio on. People are standing outside talking to each other about it."

Well, yes - I did when the Dudley one hit.
I didn't know what it was, so I looked at the clock to see what time it was because it might've been bin men or anything.
It is closer to 0820 though.
Anywho - glad your OK, even though you've been evacuated 10 minutes ago .

They said there will be one tonight, an Aftershock or something..
I had that, was round mates house at time, chimney fell off
my mates nextdoor neighbour house collapsed.
the sports centre roof collapsed.
the house i was in, you could literally see the curtains shaking the walls swinging from side to side
it must of swayed at least 5-10cm.
scary stuff.

I was wrong about one in 10 minuites, the news was wrong.
Now, Let me explain the laptop situation.
I was outside, on wireless internet the night before and left the laptop in the garden. I forgot all about it, and the wall collapsed and smashed it. The Insurance Company will give us a new one thankfully! If you see SkyNews, you will the the chimmeny outside our house smashed to pieces and the back garden where the wall collapsed. My friends were on telly live too, I wanted to run out a pull a moony at the camera, but mum stopped me :p
Anyone else experiance it? I didnt know earthquakes could hit kent which is why I immediatly thought this pattern -
Was kinda asleep/awake, thinkin about fit girls... felt shaking and heard rumbling, shot up... thought *Ashford Channel Tunnell. Dungeness Nuclear Power Station... Terrorists!"
The machine you want the name for is a SESIOMETER. It can detect earthquake levels.

Evacuated, by that I mean, taken to the Salvation Army in Folkestone. Now we are out of there and at family in North Kent
some of you people are silly. basically some people thought it was terroists because when its happening your state of mind completely changes, i look back at my thoughts and laugh. they were ridiculous but at the time, you think it could be anything. and yes some people were evacuated, as there houses were not suitable to live in, some are being demolished as they cannot be repaired. i am not at school tomorrow as there is structual and interior damage. please dont say he is lying, he is telling the truth. it was very bad for some people.

some of you people are silly. basically some people thought it was terroists because when its happening your state of mind completely changes, i look back at my thoughts and laugh. they were ridiculous but at the time, you think it could be anything. and yes some people were evacuated, as there houses were not suitable to live in, some are being demolished as they cannot be repaired. i am not at school tomorrow as there is structual and interior damage. please dont say he is lying, he is telling the truth. it was very bad for some people.
my mates which i was in at the time of earthquake has cracks all over it. all the chimneys down his road are cracked or smashed.
it really was rather bad for some.
Thank you :) I am at school tommorrow, but I just home when I get there its all smashed up so we dont have to go :D

don't you have to be near the edge of a techtonic (sp?) plate to get earthquakes?
just wondering as the Uk is like in the middle of one

No one was killed luckily :)
And I am begginning to think, and dont get me wrong or go mad etc I most probs am wrong, but it might have been a government conspiracy, planting a Nuclear Bomb underground and blame it on terrorists? seeing as we are not on a tectonic plate?
please dont go mad at me for saying this, i might be 100% wrong ;]
