She's taking me to see what he can do about my "minor depression" - but I don't want to be given pills because antidepressents DO NOT make the problems go away.
It's just like taking heroin or something because all you're doing is making yourself feel happier for a small amount of time; but the problems are still there. I said that she needs to take me to a councillor but she's like, "Yeah you probably do but we're taking you to the doctors first."

Does anyone know the side effects of antidepressents for minor depression or what will happen when I go to the Doctors? What will he ask me?

People of our age [10-18] don't have anything, really, to be depressed about although in some cases there are exceptions.

In adolesence there is a chance of getting depressed It can be caused by almost anything, they would probably put you on somthing like prozac, When you get the medcine you get a small leaflet with dosage information, this will tell you if there are any side effects, hope everything goes well for you :)

my mum has been on anti-depressants for about 8 years.

it may not make the problems go away but it helps.

I'm assuming you're quite young. At least between 12-17. I have had a similar scenario in my life recently. It's more detailed and serious for me in the circumstance. I tend not to tell anyone so i won't.

I very much doubt you will be put on anti depressants. I know this because of my situation. I know that if someone of that age is to be put on such medication, a serious decision has to be made from more than 1 expert. Anti depressants are only given in serious cases in teenagers. If you have been to the GP you probably won't be given a diagnosis right away. Usually the surgery gets back to you and refers you to a clinic of some sort. One that specialises in whatever you're dealing with.

The funny thing is with minor depression is that the doctor will turn you away in most cases. I would say to you just get on with your life. I've had days when i've felt down and it feels like there is no point to life. It's all down to hormones and growing up. Many factors can affect you aswell, mounting upto exam stress, coursework, pressure to do well in school. Anything that is orientated in a teenage daily life. Teenagers aren't always the happiest bunch. We all deal with life and cope in our own way.

I would be never supprised if you got medication, if your going with NHS they may give you any old drug to suppress it. I dont know how NHS would deal with it. If possible I would go to Bupa, as they have more time to really get down into the problem rather than covering it up. What are you depressed about?

Thers all different types of depression.
Sometimes it a chemical imbalance and tablets will help balance that out.
Sometimes its because something bad has happend to make that person depressed, in which case, tablets wont be much help, counciling will.
Your doctor will go through all this with you and they dont put anyone on anti depressants unless they have to.

And to the above post.
What a load of **, if anything, the NHS wil be alot more reluctant then buba to put u on any meds as funding isnt to good.
Bupa, you pay for all your meds so its a lot different.
