Hundreds of videos of The It Crowd had to be removed after talkbackTHAMES (part of the Freemantle Media Group) threatened to take action.
Owned, really.

Notice how it's slowly turning into Google, with the "Did you mean" and the highlighting of the words you typed and such.

What kind of gain would they get suing a random person who is one of probably hundreds of people who does that everyday? There would be no point in it. To be honest 99.99% of the time if someone says they will sue you its an idol threat.

Very true. It's the same with illegal music downloading--they're never going to get everybody so they have to go after the services that provide it: Morpheus, Kazaa, Limewire. With the videos the production companies are going to sue Youtube, not you.
However there is a possibility that they'll make an example of a few users in order to deter people from doing the same.

It's very simple. They remove videos they normally wouldn't of in the past, whether it be copyright issues or of the wrong nature. I'd put it down to it being a victim of its own success, because it's gotten so big these changes were implemented. But still, as much as I understand the changes I still feel it makes the community much worse.

I found Google to be slow at removing videos when they took over. Apart from recently it seems like they've hired staff to remove videos every minute of the day.

What's your argument exactly? If a corporation such as YouTube and many of the others are threatened with legal action, Of which seriously cripple them because of such a payout could happen. They are going to take action to avoid it. Thing is you've just got to keep an eye out for the new Video hosting sites and see what's on them, It will be a while before they get complaints for copyright infringements. Or alternatively why not just download a video from YouTube whist it's still on if you know it's going to be removed - Vixy.net (http://www.vixy.net) is one that can be used.
