today i was driving the jetta and it's a 5-speed manual and i was changing gears and i didn't press the clutch in all the way and i heard this grinding noise so i pushed it in all the way and changed gears, but then i got this awful smell of rotten eggs!
is this common in manual cars?

I have been in manual cars since I was young. Okay, very young. :P Never had this. Might wanna check with a mechanic. Come to think of it, what's in a car that smells of eggs?

not that i know of ;l ive crunched the gears before but not had a rotten egg smell afterwards :p
As from i know, if it smells of rotten eggs then its the cataylic converter.
Might wanna go on check it out as doomsboys said.

its the gearbox, theres a problem with the cog's which slot into place when you change gear, if they are doing that it means they are grinding against the gearbox and will need replacing or perhaps tightened.
