View Full Version : Criticism of `Report Reputation Problems`

I have a criticism about the person or persons that deal with this.
I would like for them to actually LOOK at the reputation given and deal with it because I reported several quite noticeably pointless.
Thoughts I guess...

I think if you have an issue with the way a member of staff is working perhaps you should have contacted ---MAD--- or nvrspk4 about it?
Anyway, I've never had any issues with people altering my reputation, and Wayne. does an excellent job and has done for over a year.
So your the first complaint I've ever heard. :)

i think i've complained before. that thread is like "come here to get bad rep removed". they might as well disable the bad rep option.

yeah.
-rep is pointless now, as it gets removed anyway.
I've gave minus rep that wasn't pointless, and it got removed. They don't really look into the situation.

:s Because what.. 2 - 3 people complain about it the whole system should be scrapped?
Fair enough, everyone is entitled to their opinion and not everyone is going to have happy dealings with it. But I can assure you, in relation to the tens of thousands of users registered on this forum who don't have any problems with it, and have had great and fair dealings with it - the people complaining are a simple minority.

I had the same problem. I posted in there for reputation I received with basically no comment with it. It sat there in the thread for about a week until my post got deleted and the rep remained.
Rep should be used to purchase something on the forum because there's no real point to it except seeing if someone is trusted/respected or not.

I think the thread is pointless, because half the time it's probably not even pointless. They shouldn't scrap minus rep, just the threads to get it removed in. So what if you received negative reputation? It's not really going to effect anything so why complain and have it removed?

ive received pointless -rep on a number of occasions, each time i reported it it got removed.
i dont do this for all the -rep i get, because usually the comment that came with it justifies their reason for the bad rep, and it made me reread the post in particular and i have seen why the person -repped me in the first place.
as it was mentioned above, scrapping -rep would be pointless, the very small percentage of users that complain about it isnt a good enough reason to get rid of it

it the same with infactions ;l, they dont look in to it. i think -REP is pointless as well, i got lots of red but i cba to report them ;l
Wow! Who knew people took such pride in their reputation on an online forum.
Negative reputation is there to notify you of areas of your personality that you might consider improving on. It's almost certain that if you get into a verbal argument, you or the other person will leave bad reputation in an attempt to make you/them feel like you/they just won the fight: the most immature and pointless thing to do. But of course, I'll admit I am a hypocrite.
Just recently I had some idiot leave me bad rep with their comment: "Learn to spell..." Funny, isn't it?
The downside of having reputation is the fact that people may see if you are a hated member of the community or a new member of the community (thus receiving the noble name 'Noob') OR that you spend WAY too much time on this forum. This is also reflected in your post count.
Removing negative reputation shouldn't be allowed. It's like you kill someone and then this superior comes along and wipes your slate clean. It's okay, you only killed someone, right? No. Negative rep is there for your improvement. Accept it and don't complain or leave negative rep for them unless you have a legitimate and honest reason.
I think the thread should get scrapped as Revelations sad. People get fussed over negative rep and always report it, but they never report positive rep. Yet, most the positive rep they have is pointless.

No. Negative rep is there for your improvement. Accept it and don't complain or leave negative rep for them unless you have a legitimate and honest reason.
But this is an online forum with users ages ranging from 10-21+
Therefore there is obviously going to be a mix of maturity levels etc. and some people are going to find it "fun" to go round -rep'ing everyone. That obviously isn't fair, so therefore it has to be removed... end of.
It just seems a lot of people want any -rep they get removed... If you post about it in the complaining thread, then it's looked into and if you still have it there and your post is deleted - then it was obviously a justified rep.
i don't think it should exist. -rep is -rep, just get on with it. it's not the end of the world if someone -reps you pointlessly.

Me and you may not think it's the end of the world, but I can assure you there is a lot of people who take it more personally and seriously and it can lead to a lot of heated arguments on the forum.

I had the same problem.
I reported a bad rep for being pointless about five times and only the fifth time it got removed as I said how it had absolutely no relation to my post and that if it isn't looked into then it is blatantly silly. Apparently comments like 'asasd' is pointless - but how many times do you get reps like that?
The rep that I got had no relation to my post so I said that it didn't and should be marked pointless and removed because otherwise it really is stupid.
Some people had problems with -rep being removed too easily, well it looks like they tried to toughen up on the removal of the reps but it seems that they just banished the common sense too as the reputation that I had to continually ask for its removal should have been removed in the first place.

No, the reputation that is reported is not looked into; I have had blank comment fields on -ve reputation and it hasn't been removed.

rep can be bought, and its included with VIP, so its hard to see whether or not peolpe have actually earnt it or not.

Well the system works well for what it does, although personaly thats what the problem with it is. Repuation is supposed to reflect your repuation, if people bad rep you, even for a stupid reason, i think it should stay. The only times it shoudlnt are when its unnessarly abusive etc.
At the moment alot of people seem to just go and get any bad rep they receave removed reguardless of weathr or not its deserved "/ Then again thats really only an issue if rep were a good reflection, the fact VIP's get free rep for example kinda removes the valdity of the claim to start with "/

I Agree with some of the points, -rep Shouldn't be removed Full stop.
And REP should be used to buy somthing, like a forum Shop
Rep is just useless, people minus rep and it gets removed, people plus rep and rep just goes up and up, and people buy rep... it doesn't really do anything special.

We could scrap the bad rep completely if people really wanted that to happen, its not hard at all. However I must say, not all bad rep is removed, only pointless bad rep or bad rep that has an unacceptable comment in it.
Wayne currently removes bad rep so you might want to contact him if you feel he removed someones rep which you want to know why he did so :).
