View Full Version : Rabbit Noises?
My friend and i would like to know what noise a rabbit makes. My friend seems to think they make a "chb chb" sound (pronounced ch-b), but i don't think that's correct.
Please reply if you know what noise they make or if indeed they make a noise at all. :O

Ooh thanks guys!
I shall have to investigate this further. I'll take my Jack Russell for a walk in the field tomorrow and see if we can force any squeaking.
Thanks for your replies! :)

My mother's rabbits don't make a sound ^^
When distressed they growl.
Good idea! I shall look on YouTube.
Growl?! Blimey, what are you feeding them?

Ask my mum
But it's fat and likes it's food
The dwarf rabbit just kicks it's hind legs. I guess the fat one's too lazy
- Grunting. Usualy this signals displeasure or annoyance. However, sometimes rabbits will grunt while doing things that excite them, such as playing with their favourite toys.
- Clicking or rubbing their teeth together, sometimes referred to as "purring". If this is done softly it means your bunny is happy and content. If, however, it is a loud grinding it means that your bunny is uncomfortable or in pain.
- Squeaking/squealing. A sign of displeasure or fear.
- Screaming. This is shrill and almost human-like. It's absolutely heart wrenching. You NEVER want to hear a bunny make this sound. When a rabbit makes this sound he fears for his life.
Other sounds:
These are a couple of other sounds that you may hear from a rabbit, though they are not vocal ones.
- Thumping. This is when the rabbit hits one or both hind feet on the ground. Rabbits do this to signal danger. Your bunny may have heard something strange and thinks that it poses a potential threat. (Or it could simply be irritable.)
- Munching. Rabbits eat constantly, so this is certainly the most common sound that you will hear from them. :)

I see. Maybe the growling is actually excess air trying to escape.
Well i looked on YouTube and found a very informative video. It appears that this particular rabbit was making a nibbling sound! Like "Nibble Niblbe".. however this was most likely due to the fact that it was trying to escape its cage.
Omg i missed the second half of your post! Thank you so much i love you lots of love bla bla bla etc thanks + rep.

As a few others said, they can actually squel strnagly enough. As mine did one day a few years back.

Mine grunts, and he's a drawf rabbit. It's sort of a grunt/squeek hybrid though :P If you make kissy noises infront of wild rabbits, they run away, fast!

Aha yeah, they're not too fond of rabbit-human love. :(

I've got a Rabbit, they don't make noises. But I saw videos on Youtube of Rabbits being bit by snakes, then they make like squeaking noises. I love my Angora bunny, hes nice and fat and if you flick the carpit and move your arm, he chases it :D.

Rabbits are quite quiet animals but mine kinda makes a "hmm" sound when I try to take her out of her hutch sometimes lol
They squeek when they're hurt or distressed. Not a sound you wanna hear.
