Do you think that the band My Chemical Romance is emo or not?
I for one don't think so;
MCR is actually one of my favorite bands.
For some reason everyone says they are?
Even though they technically don't even consider themselves emo,
and they're not naturally listed under the 'emo' genre of music.

ee;
gerard and mikey i believe actually were emo in their high school days; or something like that.
i dunno though cause i really support the theory that emo is just a crappy label. iunno.
but gee + mikey had lots of issues and stuff, and they like to dedicate their band to help out those like that, i guess?
like.. i believe they made their band to inspire, rather to just be saddymcsadsad.
anyways; i love gerards quote::
I dont think having a My Chemical Romance action figure will make a kid start his own band, I like to think it will make him save children from a burning building.

when i used to listen to mcr, their music could have been considered as 'emo'. or a result of the early 90s emo bands that existed. so like "post-emo" the same way bayside & silverstein are considered 'emo'.
now their music is just pop. there's nothing groundbreaking or defining about it, it's just what every other band COULD make.
in another term; awful.

If you heard some real Emo music then you will know that MCR are NOT Emo.

Some of their old songs are emo-ish, but to be honest yeah, comparing actual emo bands to My Chem shows they're pretty much not emo.

very, very far from emo. people have misused emo as a cover up of "boring generic fashion-based pop-punk"
like thingy ma bob said, if you heard some real emo you'd know they are anything but emo.

By todays standards, yes they are.
The definition of a genre can be changed if used enough.
Now you can be pedantic and pull the 'but what about post-hardcore emo from the 80's/98's' but it's happened and people're gonna have to put up with it.
Every commercial magazine or radio station also uses the term 'emo' to blanket pop-rock bands iconised by todays youth. There's nothing whining about what the past was like can do about it.

I agree. The same happened with indie and alt music which were originally just anything that didn't fit into a genre but are now both genres of their own.
at one point i think mcr probably were slightly emo.
but not anymore. they kinda suck now tbh.

I haven't really listened to them enough to make a judgment on what they are, I just really can't stand the band. I don't think I've ever heard a more annoying voice.

that's true, but bands playing the initial emo still exist today. the thing is every genre has a different face in the mainstream - if people believed what bands were classified as everyone would go round calling good charlotte punk and nickelback metal. oh wait, nevermind...

I think theyre a damn insult to music itself, MCR sounds like porrn for blind people for god sake. theres nothing to it, and if you dare say they arent emo, il laugh in your face.
OF course they deny being emo, reveryone does, but they still are.
AND IF ANYONE EVEN BEGINS TO CLASS THEM AS PUNK, YOU CAN SAY THAT TO ME.

Well "emo" nowadays is a fashion statement, and for people who want attention for their faux emotions.
Emo is actually originally emocore, and it's to do with a movement of punk rock bands from the 1980s, who gave more emotional and dedicated performances due to their open passion for music, breaking the standard form of concert performing.
Anyway, emo is dead. This recent revival is nothing more than teen pop culture and fashion statements, which no one has previously worn. It isn't genuine emo, it's a fraud for attention.
