Why do people...?

Have you ever noticed when people are presenting there works they always say "A 10 minute job" or "I didn't really spend time on it."

Why do people use this as a kind of.. excuse?

Is it a lack of confidence...?

So what you're saying is that people that can't take criticism use it as an excuse?

They can take criticism. But they're not gonna sit back and take it if they don't deserve it.
But some people actually say it, When they're lying. That, annoys me.
It's just like. If you do something that's really quite bad then it obv. didn't take that long. So you're gonna tell them. Otherwise you'll get bad comments cause they assume it took a while.

yeah.. it's just an excuse so it doesn't make them look crap at what they're doing. or they could be telling the truth i suppose.

Well if it looks.. not so great and they know it, why don't they try to improve it instead of using an excuse?

People say it so people feel sorry for them and give them good comments.

So it gets judged fairly. Take the example of an artist, if an artist does a 5 minute doodle, quite likes the effect, they may wana show it to people. But its still just a doodle and not an example of there proper work or there true talent so they would obviously want people to know that.

Same true of webdesign, if u just play around with somthing and get a nice effect, you may wana show it without it being judges as a full layout you put alot of time in to. Some times you really do only spend 5 mins on thing
