Well, my grandma used to do this for my dad when he was a kid. So I tried, taste GREAT.

First, wash and chop up some potatoes. You'll need more if they're small. Chop them into crisp shapes, or chips (don't make big chunks).
Fill a big pan with water, and put them all in. Don't put in too much water, only to cover the top of the potatoes!
Turn the gas on (on the oven hob), I don't know what temperature I did, but it doesn't matter. Put the pan on the hob. Putting a lid on top helps it quicker!
Wait and check them every few minutes. Get a fork and prod them, if it's soft they're done, if not then wait untill they go soft!
Once thats done, take them out and put them on a plate. You can wait for them to cool, or not.
Now, I don't have a fryer, so I had to use a frying pan. Put some oil in the bottom of the frying pan, so it layers it. Put in the potatoes!
Light the hob once more, and put the pan on. It'll sizzle, so watch out! You can cook them as much or little as you want. You may want to put a lid on! Make sure you turn them over to make them crispy on the front and back. I make mine like chips, took 10 - 15 mins.
Once done, you can eat and enjoy! If you have any left over potatoes from the first part, keep them in the fridge for another time! :)
It was only a quick thing, so if I missed anything don't get mad! They taste good, so I thought I'd share. Good if you only have potatoes!

Ohh, darn I pressed x to this before I posted it, almost lost it haha! :O

I'm currently cooking some! :D

Enjoy. :)

:D Thanks! I have some advice! Once you've boiled the potatoes, leave them to cool down then fry them, seemed to turn out better! Also, keep your eye on them and turn them over regularly! Tell me how they go, I've made 3 lots today :P

I've been doing it for yeaaaaaaaaars.
Lmao.
I didn't have fries one day so I was like hey.. what the hell why not?

and tried it. delicious lmao.

BUT I don't put them in water first. i just skin potatoes, cut them up and then put them in the oil. I'll try your way though :D

That's the normal way to make chips anyway. Instead of water. Fill the whole pot with oil. Then cook the chips like that. Then just take the chips out and you can keep re-using the oil.

WARNING

When you have blanched (par boiled in water) your potato slithers, it is essential for them to be completely cold and dry BEFORE frying them.
This stops the oil catching on fire, caused by the evaporating water when it touches the oil at temperatures of about 200 'C

the way I do it, is buy cutting out the oil. I cut some potatoes so some are thick like chips but others are really thin so you can almost see through them, put them in a pan of oil, keep flipping them over and in 15 mins they will be done, if you like it healthier you can boil OR put some oil at the bottom of a small glass fire proof dish heat on 200 degrees celcius for 5-10 mins whilst chopping potatoes and bung them in the dish leave in oven for 10 mins, then put them in kitchen towel and squeeze all the oil off of them.
