So in english i need to write a speech, i just need a topic that i can argue for, something that has both for and against comments.
So it can't be something like racism, as most/all people share the view it's wrong

Has anyone got any ideas that they could help me on pls xo. Really appreciate it,

I've recently done a speech like this for English. However I was going agaisnt Prince Harry going to Iraq. Usually in speeches you don't give a balanced arguement..?

Others in my class did -

- Raicism
- Plastic Surgery
- Drugs (Being legalised or staying illegal)
- Alcholol being legalised for U16.
- Smoking in public places being banned.

I hope this helps you and if you need any tips or advice just ask. ;)

Pick something that you're interested in. If you let someone else pick for you then you're not going to be interested in it and this will be reflected in your speech. If you're "passionate" about something then you will deliver a good speech about it. If you don't care either way your speech will be boring.

well seacat says you've got to be passionate on it and i disagree...

because for my coursework single speech in english i managed to get an A and it was on a topic i wasn't passionate about.. the subject i chose it on was on animal testing/hunting/cruelty etc.

and i researched lots of for and against points and crafted them together and learnt it to perform it in front of the class, and it got me an A so this could be a possible topic. just show enthusiasm by tone of your voice and don't drone lol

hehe :] Thanks for the ideas, the reason you need to do something with 2 sides to it is that, we are doing a speech to argue. We cant say stuff like

"You shouldn't call someone a ....."
Because most/all people know that, it needs to be something that people think both of.

And i don't really know what i feel strongly much about, thats why i wanted posible tips that could maybe give me an insight, but thanks ya'll +rep

i wrote the winning head girls speech at my school (though, i'm not the head girl ;) ) and what i can tell you is that humour is the key to success.
coming on to serious is just boring & you'll lose heart if you don't really have something you're passionate about.
making jokes out of certain situations, without being stupid, can keep your audience attentive and if they're attentive, it looks like you're doing a better job :)
hope that helps.
my speech was on the representation of gender in the media. like how men are no longer seen as "the strong hero" and can also be "domestic goddesses".

good luck with your speech. i hate speeches as i always get nervous and screw it all up lol. or i try to memorise it so much, i end up forgetting everything.

i never "write" speeches as such. i do everything off-the-cuff. i don't know why, but i think if you read a speech you sound like you're just reading someone elses words.
i think it sounds more personalised if people like just stand up, say their piece.
