That's just one of the feautures on my camera. It focuses on what it guesses as the subject. Eg. the pole. It could be focused on both the fole top and bottom. It just takes a certain aspect and blurs all the rest.

There might be a function name, i'll look around for it. Could be just general auto-focus.
