View Full Version : Proposal (regarding Forum Games)
Okay well, this is kind of in relation to this thread (http://www.habboxforum.com/showthread.php?t=368145) posted not long ago. MAD has said that he will assure the Moderation team will begin to crack down on so called "spam games", however I think that regardless of the efforts of the Moderation team the Forum Games section will still be used and abused as a place to get your post count up.
I understand in the past it has been suggested that the Forum Games section has post count disabled however from what I have gathered it may cause the Forum problems and obviously we would also be left with a very large amount of people who have lost a considerable amount of posts.
For this reason I think that the Forum Games Forum should be closed for posting and then "hidden" (I believe both are possible) and then a new Forum Games forum, where post count does not rise, be created. This way you would solve the problem of people spamming to get a higher post count and you wouldn't be left with a huge amount of annoyed people.
I have added a poll to see how many people agree. When you choose an option on the poll, please post and justify your reason, thanks!
Liam!

Your thread says that we should just get rid if it completely and what not, and seems more like a rant, whereas this is a idea to hide it and then make a new one, which is different to yours.
I agree with Garion though, it's a good idea.

I agree. I created a thread like this a few months back stating that post count should be disabled in there because it is abused. Not only do people post stupidly in there but the amount of lame and stupid games that are suggested is ridiculous. I fully agree.

The big deal is that it's against the very first of the "Forum Threads" rules, isn't it?
C1. Don't post for the sake of your post count - It's always nice to have a high post count, it may seem as though people will respect you more with a higher number beside your name, but it doesn't really mean anything on these forums. We respect each of you whether you have 1 post or 1000.
However, I don't agree with the proposal... Instead, I believe that the spam games should just be closed, or instead just moved to the spam forum. I believe that people should be able to raise their post counts playing some of the games, or at least the ones that require actual creativity / thought. I just think that the forum needs to have a bit more moderation to keep the spam games out.
If the proposal were to go through, I believe it would discourage many of the games that are actually creative / require time, as there would be less incentive to continue them.
Thats what I mean, most people don't even know about it. :(

My thread has offered a solution to the problem and has addressed issues that may arise whereas your thread was simply saying it should be closed, period.
The problem is it might be another spam forum. I am not sure what the big deal is if people want to increase their post count, its their choice really :P.
It already is another spam Forum. By changing it in the way I have suggested it will be a Forum just for games and anything off topic can be punished appropriately. The idea of Forum Games is to have fun and mess around a bit, not to get your post count up. JoeyK.'s post also addresses the second part of your post about post counts also; it's against the rules.
So far I think the poll says a lot anyway :).

Agreed, Garion in fact more inappropriate posts are made there than anywhere else in the forum in my opinion under the 'guise' of games. Starting afresh would make it easier for it to be moderated well.

Well I am shocked that you agree with the FM, again.:D Anyway, nobody is saying that there won't be games but if you were a moderator you would realise that the section as it is is quite hard to police. I have reported quite a few posts from there in the last few days, some of which were pretty inappropriate.

There is no need to attack people like that, it’s not very nice. Everyone is entitle to their own opinion and my opinion is that the Forum Games section gets used allot and, I personally enjoy taking part in some of the games within the section.
Maybe if post count was removed from that forum like someone suggested above or remake the forum as a child forum in the spam forum and hide the original games forum.
I don't agree, I enjoy taking part in some of the games in there.
You won't have any problem then! My proposal suggests that the Forum Games section should be closed and hidden from view and then a new one created - so you can still take part in, and enjoy, "some of the games in there" as they can be recreated etc :). I haven't said totally close it down, I said hide it and create a new one where post count doesn't increase ;).

Yeah sure and the answer is yes, I didn’t want people to know but seeing as two other people have PMd me asking if I did...
I had an account in early 2004 and used to work in HxHD when DJ-3000 owned it, I resigned and went with him to Positive-Help with most of the other HxHD staff.

Okay I just wondered, because it seems like you have very few (if any) posts in Forum Games and so I wondered why you said you enjoyed posting in there so much. Perhaps it was on your previous accounts :).

It would take 10 minutes top to go through the first 2 / 3 pages and move the spam threads to where they belong.

Onerous - 1.burdensome, oppressive, or troublesome; causing hardship: onerous duties.

I'd be happy to delete all of the pointless threads, I've got loads of spare time. :P Deleting the pointless threads would be much better than starting new, because people would complain about their post count and the fact that their thread/game is no longer there. :P

Why not make it like the debates forum, where there is a stickied thread for "posting ideas for new games" and then only a smod or whoever can make a new thread on games that aren't pointless. The games in there atm that are pointless should be removed, although around 400 of my posts lie within forum games somewhere i'm not too bothered.

If you read my post properly, Mr. Neversoft, people wouldn't lose out on post count. The Forum would be closed for posting and then hidden and therefore anyone who has posted in any game still in that Forum will keep the post count :).

But don't get rid of them at a certain date, keep them going. Just normal members cannot post new ones, but they can post in them. And yeah about the stickied thread where you can post ideas for new ones, so thats like making a new thread, but going through tests, like whether its spam or not. :8

Since the introduction, or reminder of the rule, I have moved several threads from the Forum Games section into the Spam section. I check there regularly to see if anything needs moving. Whilst some games are, questionable, I believe most of the threads in the section, that are active at the moment, to be above board.
I do agree on swapping to another forum, though.

Personally I think we should just turn post counts off and deal with the people who kick up a fuss. Post counts shouldn't mean that much.
However given these two options, I'd definitely say yes. I'd also say, people who have posted games in the last two weeks to one month have the ability to request their thread moved to the new forum, so PCs may be lost, but its at the request of the thread starter. Thus, games that have been going on a while that depend on the length etc (for example, one word stories) can continue.
My 2 cents ;)
