a member of the school concil in our school is trying to get long hair for boys banned i against this because i have long hair and i think its a right to free expresstion.
his arguments are that in our school skinhead stlye short hair is banned so shouldnt long hair on boys be banned? then theres hygine,if a boy has a long fringe isnt it unhyginic for them? then theres the rediculace idea that a fringe over the eyes or even 1 EYE is a :OSAFTY HAZARD:O
anyway it probably wont work but i was wondering all yous lovley peoples opinions

Long hair has a good case for being banned. Such as safety in technology using drills, etc

Hahaha.

I have no idea why short haircuts are banned in your school, if long hair is banned tell them that your not changing your hair just because they say.

You can always take them to the Newspapers over things like this.

if they ban long hair, they have to ban it for both sexes. bit sexist otherwise?

Plank

My argument against that would be if they ban it for boys, ban it for girls as well to make it fair.

They cant ban the hair length they can only ask you to usehair thingys when in areas like drills and stuff, tie it back put it up, :)

Do a compromise like in my old high school - you're allowed long hair, but it must be tied back. It's fair and everyone wins.

It'd need to be banned for the girls too, it's a safety hazard for everyone from that perspective.

last week they banned long hair on boys at my school, they all have until the weekend to sort it out. most of them refuse to get it cut, some of them are even straightening their hair to make it look longer and one boy went and got a number 1, then obviously got suspended.

I see where they're coming from, but people who have like, tried to grow their hair for ages and have to have it cut just because a bunch of council kids said it needs to be banned, I would refuse to have it cut.

I agree, they cant make you do anything you have free will. Take it to the media if they try and make it, it works out worse for the school or get the students with long hair sign paper and send it to the GOV BOARD they'll sort it.

Then you probably look stupid with it down too. Either that or you need to grow it a bit more, in which case just look silly for a while if you really care that much.

edit @Hollywood: they can make you do it, uniform is easily enforced in schools, and you can actually face suspension if you don't go with it.

They actally cant. Unless a formal letter is sent to every parent regarding the whole issue, which then gives 'x' days or week.

Furthermore the parents can take this to the media or gov board and explain that females should follow this new rule while within school due to the exaclt same reasons as males.

I agree that hair should be tied up when using drills ect. but how does your hair effect your education? The answer is, it doesn't

And aslong as they wernt crawling with nits and icky things and kept it clean.
I think they should ban girls to have icky dirty hair aswell.

also, the chances of not getting an NHS ambluance are low, and as far as i know you shouldnt have to pay no matter what. you should be insured anyway.

Right...

I do to an all boys school and the following implements are placed on hair:

- Hair cannot exceed past the collar
- Hair cannot be any shorter than a number '4', in hairdressing terms

This was annoyin' when I loved to let my hair grow- but I can see why it's done.
People would just let their hair grow and grow.
And on the other end of the scale, some would shave their heads and not have any hair at all.

I think without the rules, the scope of bullying would be widened.

Exactly.

I think that you really should have your own choice whether or not you keep your hair long. It's pretty obvious you need to tie it up when doing practical stuff, but they can't make you cut your hair.
And as said above, it is pretty sexist.

OMG what a load of ****. I only read the first post but your school has no right to say what length your hair can be, they don't for girls do they ? what if you had cancer or some other disease and all your hair fell out would they send you home then?

If you are doing something where your hair might be a danger to yourself they can make you put it up in a bobble or something but telling you to cut it is out of order.

We can have any type style hair in our school, there's a WIDE variety of styles. Why should the skinhead style be banned, half the boys in our school have it. In my primary school, you had to have your hair short if you didn't want to have to tie it back with a hairband, you couldn't die your hair or even gel your hair either. All that because they thought that it would make us the same. They got it totally wrong, it's not the style that kids get the mick tken out of them for, it's generally the colour...

boys with long hair have never been allowed here. in my school, a boy's hair must never touch the uniform's collar, must never touch the eyebrows or the ears. girls with long hair must tie them. failing to do so will result in detention or the phoning of your parents.

this rule is about the same for every government school in singapore, so i'm pretty much used to it. singaporeans, bah, we're too used to following the law and being 'good', there are so many ridiculous laws around. i'm sure you people have heard of the famous chewing gum ban in singapore.

Okay, I'm just going to say that's completely ridiculous. And I agree with all the before posts, yeh, it's sexist...

My brother wasn't going to do it, but my dad stepped in and forced him to.. (ugh; yes, the forceful father.)

So yeh. The poor boy looks like he's in fourth grade all over again, and he's a freaking junior in High School.. the police man said that he had to cut it because his hair would encourage him to be like, rebellious? I mean, what the hell is with that? "Long hair is rebellious, so that will encourage the owner of the long hair to be rebellious also."

Not only does that get the award for stupidest thing I've ever heard,
but seriously..

Does hanging around tall people make you tall?

People are ridiculously stupid these days and need to learn that hair is a thing on our head that is part of who we are. You don't just make us cut it.

If you boys are getting forced to cut your hair,
just stick with the simple phrase,

you cut my hair, i cut your throat.
My mum made me cut my hair :(
