Isn't it weird how our society has begun to revolve more and more on online happenings and things that take place over the internet? Do you not find it at all odd that the single biggest pastime worldwide is now sitting in front of a computer? Well I sure find this fascinating....

Do you not find it orinic that in modern times having your computer crash is equivilant to about a mid-life crisis for most other people? I just find it very funny how we are all so dependant on something so surreal and that only exists through a vast expanse of cables, cords, and spinning disks.

Anyways, on a lighter note, what are your thoughts? What are your views on everything that is happening on the web today? Here is some food for thought, please post your thoughts/conclusions to let everyone know what you think:

Web 2.0 - What is it? Who made it? Does it really mean anything? Is it truly the "new standard"? Why does everyone think its so great?
Paid Scripts - Why do people buy them? Why do people make them? Why are people willing to put so much time and effort into something they won't ever get any kind of physical return on?
Dial Up Internet - Why does everyone think it is so bad? Should we base site designs to load fast for dial-up users? How much of the web populous do they actually occupy?
Hosting Startups - Why do so many people try if the majority just end up in the whole? Is it the major companies with rock-bottom prices that are killing the startups? Why don't people trust new arrivals even if they're site looks clean and professional?
Forum Communities - Who came up with the idea? Why are they so popular? Why are some popular vs. others that are unpopular?
IM - Isn't that what phones are for? What methods are considered trendy and which are obsolete? How does it happen/work and who came up with it?Just some food for thought. Please post your ideas. I'm especially interested in the perspectives of web designers and coders who "make the web work".

Please only post logical/well thought out answers. Thanks :)

@Web 2.0 - Web 2.0 doesnt have a pacific meaning, its just something that was said at a O'Reilly Media confence. Depends on what you see Web 2.0 as.

@ Paid scripts - No physical return from scripts? Please dont make me laugh. Google, Digg, Yahoo, Delicious? Google Adverts / Sponsorship. Take a look at Google profits and thats all from "scripts"

@ Dial up - Why wait ages for files to download when you can do it quicker, stupid comment tbh.

@ Hosting Startups - Its called business

@ Forum Communities - Its called business

@ IM - o lets not email, lets send a FAX. Why? IM is free, phoning people costs.

Hows it weird or unexpected? Its just progress, go back a few 100 years and motor cars would be unheard of, now there just part of life, its happened so many many times, how can change still come as such as suprise?

Web 2.0 - a buzzword made to create hype about a new webdesign style. Check wikipedia im pretty sure that'l tell ya who coined it if your really interested
Paid Scripts - no physical return? i take it money has become a non-physical entity as has the food and items we use it to purchase? Ask yourself, why would u drive somewhere rather than walk.. because its easier and faster. Same reason people buy a script to do somthing rather than do it em selfs.
Dial Up Internet - Becuse its slow as ****
Hosting Startups - No look at every other type of busness start up in existence, you notice it yet? its exactly the same thing. Most new businesses fail, its just how its always been.
Forum Communities - Its as old as the internet itself. Next you'll be asking who came up with the idea of having a conversation... Forums just make it easyer to do, with a wider array of people.
IM - Instant messenging, its like email... except urmm well instant. Why would people use it? well its free, and you can contact anyone on the planet without any extra costs? why not use it?

Web 2.0 - Don't care
Paid Scripts - For money and because it's a skill and a service
Dial Up Internet - Because it's **** and slow, it should't be alowd
Hosting Startups - Big companys are not cheap, new guys get crushed
Forum Communities - The same guy who made a guest book, it's the same thing just more advanced, so people can communicate better and meet more people
IM - cheaper then a phone + if you don't like some one theres always the block button

Dont be confused by institutions like paypal banks, and debit cards, every bit of money used exists somewhere in a physical form, weather in a banks investments or safes, or in your pocket. Creating virtual money for use as real currency isnt done by the government and anyone else doing it is committing a major offence on the same scale you would if you were printing out counterfeit money in the physical sence... although possibly with worse repercussions due to them probably wanting to make an example of anyone who tried.

Still, money is all physical :P

Carl, he was joking lol.

Yeh I basically agree with carl. There are loads of buisness' starting up its just we notice hosting companies as they are an online buisness they post on this forum. Eg if you were starting a shop you wouldnt post it in web market [unless its an online shop]
