Yes but one of the excuses has been "we're a Habbo fansite and Habbo don't allow it, so we won't..."

would habbox be able to do something so ppl can choose if they want a filter or not
or is that not possible

No, it would require a plugin I think.
Tristan

I'm not sure if that's possible.
Like having a panel in admincp or something and have a box where you could enter words in that would be filtered with a profanity filter on and not with it off.

i think if they allow us to say like
"oh today's been so S...." so its not aimed at anyone it should be allowed where as if its aimed at someone like "your a little s...." then its not allowed (Y)

To add onto my post
if you think Habbo lets you PICK, therefor you can or not, where as if they let us swear then EVERYONE has to see, unless they install a plugin to let you choose they wont let us.

Well with this, *removed* should most certainly be removed from the filter on habboxforum imo tbh.
Edited by ---MAD--- (General Manager): Please do not avoid the filter.

It wouldn't work on the forum. People have lasted years without swearing on Habbo(x). I see no reason for Habbo to think removing it is a good idea, the place won't be as pleasent for new people. All sucessful games online are censored, so they won't gain much out of it. Even if you have the bobba filter on, it will still look stupid, imagine.. "bobba you, bobba bobba bobba" "where the bobba are you" "whats the bobba". Its just going to look silly IMO ;).

Not avoiding the filter will not get you infractioned even if its obvious because the forum remains clean.

Habbox would not remove the filter within the forum plainly and simply because it encourages fighting and isn't fair for younger people on the forum or for people who don't swear. Some people would take serious offence if someone swore at them and some wouldn't so keeping people from swearing all together is the best option.

What about if you go
"For {habbo screenshot of swearword} sake".
That's not avoiding filter and it's just putting a random screenshot of habbo in your text. :D:D.
Would that be aloud, not that i'm sad enough to do screenshots everytime I want to swear. =\.

No. As you are not allowed to post images with swearing in... so you won't be able to do that.

World of Warcraft has the option to turn off the "Profanity Filter", That's probley the most successful online game. But I'm just been picky, There is no Plugin currently as far as I can see written for an optional forum filter. As there has probley been no need for it :).

World of Warcraft also has a optional filter, there is no problem if the filter is default on as soon as you start Habbo.

Has no one figured out that the filter cannot be turned off by individuals of the forum? It is best to keep those younger than 12 or 13 fresh until they reach manic swearing age, than to let them go crazy before hand. If Habbo got rid of it completely, then Habbox will, but because Habbox doesn't have the same system as Habbo, they cannot "/

Habbox is far less mature than Habbo therefore ---MAD--- and his reign of ******ry will not turn it off.

Actualy it is very possible to ad an option filter, with a few (yet significant) modifications to certain forum functions.
VB like most forums, runs its word filter when a post is saved to the database. Thus, information is simply placed on the forum as it appears within the db itself.
To have an optional filter, the word filter would have to be run on the loaded content itself, every time a page is loaded (if its turned on), the problem with this is it will put alot more strain on the server, especally on a big and busy site like habbox.
Although.. a method ive used on my own site to counter this, is simply to have an "uncensored" forum, which only people who disable the word filter, are able to view (custom profile field, little script to read and make checks, easy as pie)
Personaly i dont really see much practicality in banning swareing, i mean whats the purpous, stop people from hering the words they use on a dayly basis anyway?

In correct.
New users would have the filter on and wouldn't see the swear words, it's completely optional.
Online games (The Good ones not some browser game *cough* runescape) have options to turn the filter level down or off completely.
Who cares if the posts look stupid? its not like your going to post 2 or more swear words in a row to be honest.

Thats a pretty stupid assrtion, seeing as if people swore that much it would look like that NOW.
People arnt going to sware any more just becuse they can turn the filter off, it just means they see words instead of stars when people do indeed sware. there are plenty of stars in posts anyway.
It would also remove the problem of people avoding the filter since there wouldnt really be any need "/ I still fail to see the downside here...

So how does that work? People who have the filter on see ****** and those that dont see the swear words?
Pretty much yes, Except the words are filtered out with "@!*" like in a cartoon or something. The Profanity filter is much lighter though than what we have here.
There was also a discussion on this sometime ago about an optional profanity filter, On vBulletin.org. The point made was that censorship is done before posts are entered into the database. Therefore making it hard to make it an option for users, Original discussion on this topic can be found here (http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=40091).
So you can now turn the bobba filter off in the UK Hotel too. So why not do that on here?
