sorry but i cldn't see how people would reply to this on the "official" thread
don't you think the midget old dr who was just REALLY random!?!?
seriously, the whole episode was flippin random
Russel T Davies thinks he can get away with making things up at the top of a hat and expecting people to believe them.
The whole midget dr who bit was bliddy stupid, no bliddy significance.

Well considering people relatively shrink when they age, I would say being 900 years old and being aged a further few 100 years would leave you quite umm small and old :P

But what was the point of him shrinking?
Had no plot crossover or anything...
Producers only did it cos they were bored.

I thought there was a valid reason for him shrinking :s it showed the significance of how insane the Master is and how vunerable the Doctor was.
You shrink with age, if you think of your grandparents your usually taller than them. And their probably only about 70+? Imagine how small you would be if you were 900 years old and how wrinkly you would be. I think they portrayed it very well. And i think it shows that they thought about it.

I salute you!
Basically, the reason the master shrunk him is simple. The Master is evil, insane, crazy, mental but above all he wants to do one thing. Humiliate the doctor. Making him powerless on live television AGAIN and turning him into a creature quite like Dobby out of Harry Potter was very humiliating. The Master also said he had removed the doctors regenerations with the laser screwdriver, the doctor doesn't age (well his body anyway) because he has the power of regeneration. The Master removed that and the doctor got hit with the full weight of 900 years.

I made the 900 year old doctor a really small midget thing, cus I was bored.
PROOF! ^^
Yeah, there was a very big significance to it as pointed out by above posts. You cant really say that the whole episode was random, because all the other episodes are linked into it. When you watch it, everything that was un-answered in previous episodes just clicked into place. It was a well planned and executed series. Very clever imo.
