View Full Version : Suggestion - Report Button

I would like to suggest that when somebody reports a post the button disappears so that members do not duplicate reporting a post. It would save the Moderators quite a bit of time having to deal with numerous reports for the same post, I believe. I am not sure if this is possible but when an infraction is given the infraction button disappears so it would be along the same lines.

That would be embarassing if like every post you made had no Report button on it :x

When the same post is reported, there is an original report psot made in the MOD section, and anymore people who report that same post, a post in the same thread gets made, instead of a new thread.
So:
1 person reports 'catzsy for swearing' < thread made
2nd person reports 'catzsy for swearing' < Post in the orig. thread made
3rd person reports 'Catzsy for swearing' < Post in the orig thread made
Thats what it is usually.

Only Super Moderators can see those threads, as Catzsy knows. I believe she is talking about normal Moderators :).

Yes, thanks, Garion I should have made that clearer and the mods usually get to the reported posts first.
Aight, maybe it would help prevent rule breaking? I do take your point though which I hadn't considered which might be a reason against.

I agree that this would be a great idea. As when I was AFM and Smod a lot of the time you were dealing with duplicate ones and stuff.
But if the same post is reported a lot it shows there really is something wrong there, and therefore more urgent stuff is noticeable and therefore dealt with quickly...
I do think it is a good idea though! :)

It’s a great idea and I think habbox would benefit from it though, I don’t think it’s possible unless, it’s made manually (which is why we have the technical manager aye!?!??!)

Well that happens quite a bit too so it would stop it!

I take your point but most urgent stuff is reported in the serious abuse/rule breaking thread or should be in any event. e.g. inappropriate images and spam attacks. I know members don't always do this.

Although it offers little benefit to me it may be wise to gain the opinions of the current normal moderators to see if they mind dealing with the same report twice, it cant take that much away from their time moderating.
I know when I was moderating that aspect actually helped as I had set it up so that I received desktop alerts with a link to the thread/offending material etc so that I could see what was going on even if I was offline. If something was seriously going wrong in one of my sections presumeably a lot of users would report it which would mean I would receive more frequent alerts regarding the same thread hence it would be regarded as a more urgent task to deal with.
Personally, I would gain the opinion of the current normal moderation team to see if they think it would be a good idea as it is really only that section of the moderation dept that benefits from it. If it doesnt bother them that much I dont see the point in changing any of the settings as users and moderators alike are used to it being like this. :)

Well it would help he members too if you think about it. They report posts that could have already been reported so would be less duplication too for them. Just an idea though. Not life or death :D

Its not a requirement for users to report posts, its entirely optional. If they think someone else must have already reported a post or just cant be bothered to report they dont have to do anything at all. ;)
Although I've just spotted youre signature and I now understand where this query has stemmed from. :D

Well yes it is optional but a lot of good members use it and it is a requirement to be considered for a Mod job these days so anything that doesn't waste their time would be useful too, surely. Can you elaborate what you mean about my signature because at face value it doesn't sound very complimentary. Thanks =]

I just noticed the fact that youre a HxWF moderator, thats all. :)
I assumed this idea had come from some sort of issue in the way that HxWF is moderated that has potential for implementation here.
I'm pretty sure there is no way we can implement this, it's simply not an option on a vb forum, unless its manualy coded.
I don't think its that big of an issue, since what Bambi said was correct:
When the same post is reported, there is an original report psot made in the MOD section, and anymore people who report that same post, a post in the same thread gets made, instead of a new thread.

This also backs up Ostinato's comment when he said:

I think it's actually more of a benifit that a post can be reported more than once.

No not at all - no issue whatsoever. It is my OWN idea and comes from my experience as a Mod/Smod, even from before your time I believe, and I thought it maybe worth considering as the forum is open to ideas and does embrace change if it has positive benifits. Aight has already thought of a pitfall that may scupper it anyway. His point is valid in that other members could see that a post has been reported. J1MI,also, does not seem to think is viable. Having said that I do not think that it is necessarily a good criteria to assume the more the post is reported the more urgent it is. Could be a double post on a busy section! Every reported post is urgent and mportant because it can get very frustrating for a member to report something with nothing being done for ages =]

This also backs up Ostinato's comment when he said:
Only for Smods. Mods get a email for individual reports.

When multiple people report the same post, only one thread is made about it and the other reports on the same post go under that thread so it doesnt cause any problems at all :).

Okay well thats fine it just means duplication of reporting posts by members then who I am sure probably don't mind. :P
I must have remembered wrongly. What you describe happens for Smods in the report post thread but not for Mods who have individual emails for each report and so have to check each one which maybe the same as the one before it :S
Whether it is technically viable is another thing, of course.

At Nick-
Moderation on HabboxWorld is quite different to moderation on here, we don't have reports emailed to moderators, they can view the threads like you would.
This would be helpful as I suppose Moderators wouldn't want their inboxes full of "REPORTED POST FROM HABBOX UK FORUM", it would annoy me to hell. I think it is a good idea, but I have not heard of a way to do it.

I think it would be helpfull. As stated earlier, SMOD reports are all in one thread. But when we recieve the emails we have to open each individual one to find out if it's different thread or to find out it's the same one.
But when serious rule breaking happens i can recieve up to 10 reports on one thread which then delays me from sorting the other as i have to check them all to be sure.
so yes, i think it's a good idea.
Haveing had another think. The email title in our inbox is 'Reported post at HABBOX UK FORUM'. So what if you could have it so the title was of the thread title that has been reported. So it's easy regognisable for knowing if you have dealt with it or not.

I like the idea but I don't think it should be used. It would safe the inbox space of the normal moderators, which is a good thing, but it'll also mean that not everybody is able to prove themselves as a mod because there is less to report.
If person A and B both report the same amount of posts and show the qualities a mod needs, but person B is always the one who reports the posts first (because he lives in a different time zone or things like that) it would mean that person A is never able to report any posts and we'll think he doesn't want to be a mod or that he isn't good enough to be a mod.
(I hope everything makes sense so far.:))
Also, checking the same post doesn't take that long, you click the link and close it if it's the same. :D

I like the idea however I'm not sure if its possible and also being honest I don't find it too much work looking over multiple reports. I normally get no more than 2 or 3 on the same post ever and it only takes a couple of minutes to look into each. However I like this idea but I don't think it would make a huge difference to moderation.
lol good idea, then people also know when they've reported it.. and aight it would only dissapear if u report it lol so ;s
