I think it depends i don't think 'tags' are art but sometimes you see something thats been done and it looks amazing like that thing that was done on the Tate Mordern in london. They kept it for years and years because it was so amazing but it recently got painted over by accident.

it is art, but i don't think it should be done all over the streets.
aslong as its not on bus stops etc..
Graffiti in terms of Banksy's work etc is art, when idiots go around and write "Garion woz ere 2k7", which is also graffiti, it is not art.

I like some of it, council sometimes hires people to do it on certain walls don't they? .. They did on a local park near me, on the ramps etc.
I don't like that stuff "w0z ere '07 wiv mi krew" "chani iz a les"
..lol. But the art is pretty cool

Banksy is one of my idols. But it can only be art in that sense.

some places yes, but not like jackboy posted. it looked like he'd done it on someones house? i mean that's bad.... Some places where the council have hired people to do it look good, but not when people just do their tags everywhere.

only in certain places. if its done on other peoples properties then no. because thats just selfish. if on places where its allowed and legal, then its alright.

Majorca's full of graffiti.
Especially near Palma.
Can I have a link to that thread about Jackboy's graffitiing antics?

as others have mention - look at real graffiti, not some punk who sprays their name in over sized letters trying to make it 3d and adding their tag.

I think there should be a couple of places where people get to showcase their artistic talents.

Personally i love grafiti, well at least the decent grafiti which isnt just a baldy writen name on a wall. As interesting as it is staring at a blank concreate wall, i personally think its much nicer with grafitie all over em, looks alot more interesting and alot less barren.
I cant see why some people seem so obssessed with removeing it, especally the good stuff.

In some places it looks nice, like in alleys && stuff on the side of old buildings as long as the art makes sense.
But in total, I think that graffiti art is bad because like you're messing up a building && stuff. But yeah.

Some is ok.. I know Banksy is "amazing" and all that jazz but I still don't particularly like it. It's clever and yeah the guy's got talent, but it's not my kind of art.

But on a canvas what do you think?

I think some of it's art, not the stuff like peoples names in graffti writing but things like images and what not would be classed as art to me.
There is a few builds around that have like graffti'd pictures on them, and they are really good.

What a waste of taxpayer money to be honest, If I paid my taxes I would not want my council tax money to go towards a pointless wall covered in paint.
But on a canvas what do you think?
I think modern art sucks altogether, a nice picture of a house by a lakeside is art to me, unlike some red lines and green circles all mashd in together with many other colours.

Fair enough. :P
I'm quite into the edgy-arty-designs.

I think graffiti looks good in graffitti parks with the huge boards which is a huge display of free expression. but when its on the street its just vandalism, which can ruin or spoil great facilities. People who do it are dumb in a way because we pay taxes (People in England in general obviously not teenagers) for theese facilities and we reck them. so your ruining your own money.

Agree with top part, if people want to do art then they should buy their own space to do it. I'm an artist myself but I disagree with councils paying for some guy to spray over a stencil on a wall.
Second part I used to agree with, then I found out that expressionism, futurism and surrealism count as modern art, and that's what I mostly paint myself ^_^ however yeah "random" bits of colour which aren't anything aren't great in my opinion, as it's the explanation of what they've done which people see as artistic and not the piece itself.
