In the past I have noticed a few posts complaing about not being able to get asleep... So I have collected some helpful ways to help you get asleep, and I have added some of my own that personaly help me :)
Listen to relaxing music, or even sounds of nature such as rain falling, the sea
Dont have a bed time snack or what ever you might call it, because it will make your blood sugar higher and obviously it isnt going to help you sleep is it...
Sleep in complete darkness... Or as close as possible to it
Dont watch TV right before bed, because It will stimulate the brain... I'd say stop watching TV maybe 20 mins before you go asleep
Keep your bedroom or what ever room you sleep in, below 21C... That is 70F
Obviously... Avoid caffine
An intresting one - Remove your clock from view... It will only make you worry as you see it get later and your worring about not going to be able to wake up as it goes 1AM 2AM 3AM etc
Put any work away 2 or more hours before bed, so you can go asleep feeling calm
3mg of melatonin... And no you are not pumping your body full of nasty chemicals! Its naturally produced in the pineal gland... But your just upping the dose I suppose, or maybe your not producing it when you need it
Dont nap in the day... For the obvious reason you are resting then
Be active in the day, dont lounge around in front of the pc...
A really useful one that helped me when I was having trouble sleeping, exhaust yourself... Jog on the spot for about 5 mins and sprint on the spot not stopping for about 2 mins... Then just crawl into bed and you will eventually fall asleep
Hope this helps people having trouble sleeping :)
Click here to buy melatonin (http://www.hbymail.com/hbm1301.php?gclid=CLDkiNvrmI0CFSXjEAodzHp41w) Price is £19.90 for 360 tablets... So thats a year supply

I like watching TV before i go to bed actually :).. it actually makes me forget about things like that it is late. Or maybe that is just me? :P
And i don't really think that it is a smart thing about running on the spot etc. since most people live together with others.. And if you have trouble sleeping, that might mean that you will do this late at night.. So the other person[s] might complain? :)
But of course, that was only my oppinions :P
Of course people should feel free to try all of the advice you gave :D.. as long as they feel comfortable about it :)
Well.. anyways xD.. +rep for taking the time to try to help people? :P

Thanks for the tips. But I guess teens can't use the melatonin.
Not for use by children, teens, pregnant or nursing women.

I have trouble getting to sleep, but once I'm asleep you'll have trouble getting me awake again. Which scares me cos I don't wanna sleep through the fire alarm goin off :l I find it hard to get to sleep because I get so hot. Even if I have my bedroom window open all day I get hot at night. I even have a massive fan at full blast right next to my face but I still get hot! And no I don't have a mystery woman in bed with me! Nor am I thinking about one! Or pretending to have one!

What I do is I clear all thought in my mind, block out all sound except for the sound of my breath and just listen to my breath until I fall asleep, it always works.

Best thing to do if you cant sleep is to have a w...
Or a bath x]
Like 4 years ago I could never get to sleep, as I was sleeping because I was trying to get to sleep I would start trying to control my breathing and then hyperventilating.
not good x[

Sometimes I have really bad insomnia, a couple of weeks ago it took me over 2 hours to get to sleep. I don't think the last one would work because it would mean you're active.
I asked my Mom if I could have some sleeping pills incase it happens again but she won't let me :|

Yea, Herbal sleeping pills are ok, but melanin (sp) ones arent because melanin triggers puberty, and if taken whilst in puberty it can affect you.

I disagree with that one, I always watch a DVD or TV when I go to bed, I can't get to sleep without watching it.
Watching TV before you go to bed is ok.
I watch a "Friends" DVD everynight before I go to bed. This normally sends me to sleep.
If you get sweaty in bed open a window and your bedroom door it makes a cool breeze.
But put a channel that you are not interested on if you don't get to sleep for ages..

Well who could be bothered to do that in the night? I do 20 press ups and 20 push ups before I get into bed and that kind of helps me abit and keeps you fit :D
P.S What ever happend to the good old counting sheep over a fence in your mind?
TIP: It's scientificly proven that thinking about EVERYONE you have ever met helps you fall asleep.. ;D Well thats what they say!

Ive used all your tips... and it still aint helped :(
Ive been to my GP too, and I have tried everything. From drinking a milky drink to taken sleeping pills. And I still don't sleep. Its now been diagnosed as Insomnia. Any tips for that?
this is really useful and i found it really easy to read in the way it was set out. sometimes i have trouble sleeping and personally i fall asleep really quickly if the tv is on, because i am one of those people who cant get to sleep because they are always looking around - and will open their eyes whenever they hear a noise. so i found that having the tv on did drown out curious noises and also made my eyes tired from watching it.
i would suggest doing this before the others in your household go to sleep otherwise thats not green if you keep the tv on all night, haha.
thats for the tips and i liked the way you veered away from sleeping pills :)

Ah yes a very nice thread. I too have been sleeping worse lately, as I am in a constant state of revision for exams, worrying about other Uni stuff. But I really need to find a good way to get to bed. Very nice tips :)
