Okay, truthfully, how many people here drink even although they are under 18 years of age?
If you do.. stop now. There are so many things that can become of drinking.
Like...
1. Being Infertile.
2. Wrinkly skin
3. Heart/kidney disease.
4. Heart attack
5. Brain damage
6. Loss of age
7. More chances of catching STI or other diseases.
Also, if you didn't already know, every bottle of say smirn-off-ice kills 2 brain cells so if you drink alot you could be killing millions of brain cell a month.

6. Loss of age
i never knew it worked like an anti aging prossess.
plus it still has same effects when u are over 18 as well.
I personly dont like the taste of alchaol so no problem athogh i know tones of people who do drink "/

Right, lets take this one by one ;)
1. Being Infertile.
A very small risk, I assume. Seeing how many people get pregnant and how many people drink.
2. Wrinkly skin
Happens anyway, and I'm not too worried about wrinkles
3. Heart/kidney disease.
Can't argue with this one, but obviously if you drink excessively it'll be greater. ie. George Best
4. Heart attack
See above
5. Brain damage
See above above
6. Loss of age
Oh no, I drink and I get younger. To me that isn't a bad thing
7. More chances of catching STI or other diseases.
You get STI's from having...
Stupid filter
intercourse, let no one ever have intercourse again then
Also, if you didn't already know, every bottle of say smirn-off-ice kills 2 brain cells so if you drink alot you could be killing millions of brain cell a month.
You would need to drink 500,000 bottles of Smirnoff a month. That's approximately 16,666 bottles a DAY. I think not.
As for me I drink, on occasion, but I wouldn't call it binge drinking.
Perhaps on a friday someone can sneak a few cans of Carling or whatever out, yeah I'll have one. I won't get mortal, but you know, livens the night up :) And I won't do what SOME other people do which is get drunk out of their heads and cause havoc.

65% of teenagers report to a survey that they have been drunk in the past month.
48% of 10 year olds say that they have had alcohol in the past month.
I don't think it is an issue if you aren't an alcoholic. Drinking on weekends is very common with everyone, and I don't think it is harming you to the extent that you do.
Anyways,
I drink on weekends, but very rarely weekdays. I try to avoid feeling horrible in the morning before school =\
Oh well, it is impossible to stop underage drinking anyways as many kids/teenagers just drink in there own home.

Okay, first of all, i meant loss of age as in you wont live for as long.
And i meant to write 20 brain cells sorry.
Anyway, it isn't the same for 18 year olds, as there body can handle it, obviously if they get drunk every night it will affect them, but not if it is every occasion or whatever.
And when i said you have more chance of having an STI, it means that when you are drunk, you do stupid things... see where i'm going? Nearly 70% of teenagers who drink get pregnant or "sleep" with others usually do this when they are drunk.
Dirgeofcerberus
10-05-2005, 04:17 PM
Ok, so even if it is 20 brain cells you kill off per bottle, it would still take 50,000 bottles a month which is approx 1,666 bottles per day, so it is clearly impossible to kill off a million brain cells per month.

Well.. sorry, i was just giving an example... Sheesh.
whats wrong with the odd beer? when it tastes nice? you could argue that coke hurts your teeth! but its not gona kill you!
la-ur-en
10-05-2005, 04:25 PM
I don't mean the odd beer, but young people these days drink every weekend (as in a full bottle of vodka)i mean come on, most 18 year olds dont drink that much every weekend. People think they are 'rebels' if they drink young, but once you become older it seems childish unless it is a special occasion, and its not grown up, adults don't drink every weekend (well most). If people under 18 decide to drink once every few weeks or whatever, then i guess i can't argue, but people drinking every weekend is just over the top and very unhealthy, i don't think half of these people realise what damage they are doing to themselves.

I second what Jacko says. I get your point Lauren, but you are saying like everyone reading this is an alcoholic?
I'm sure most people here have had an odd drink here and there, I definately have. As long as you keep your drinking reasonable and drink moderately it's fine, surely?
.:SweetHeart:.
10-05-2005, 04:42 PM
The people you affect while drinking is a more important issue...
I don't know many 10 year olds that would be serious enough to answer a survey question like that
-Soph-
10-05-2005, 06:15 PM
I suppose the odd drink doesn't hurt, but i see people who get hammered every weekend, it cant do them any good...
Im 15, i drink every weekend yes. But not to an extent. I also no my limits and no which drinks effect me badly for instance. I don't drink vodka anymore because it makes me argumentitive and violent! I enjoy drinking and im not going to stop. Wer all going to die some time, why not enjoy ourselves while wer here!
Jacko2kn3
11-05-2005, 05:40 PM
Good advice Spankadelic, to an extent anyway.
How can you tell that 18 year olds can handle it better than us? Probably is true, but limits are different to everyone. I can drink quite a lot and not become totally mortal, and not be waking up on a beach with a seagull doing his business on my head. ;)

But I find some people get drunk just to show off, (teenagers), everyone drinks on special occasions, and most of us know the dangers of being an alcoholic.

So.. as soon as you hit 18 when you can LEGALLY enter pubs/clubs/bars/whatever you don't drink as excessively as underagers? PLEASE. This topic has really got me cross.. to the point where I can laugh at it.
STI's from consuming alcohol? AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. You're more likely to become infertile by standing too close to the microwave. I kid you not. You're talking serious alcoholics here, people that have to drink everyday just to get up in the morning. People that drink hundreds of litres a week. Now how many underage drinkers do you know who do that?
About the ageing/liver/heart/kidney failure though.. Valid points ;) HOWEVER. I am seventeen. I don't know how old you are, but I think you're generalising things a little bit too much here. I'd like to know where you've got these so called 'facts' from, about teenagers and how much they drink.
You show off when you're 13/14 about how '****ed' you were after your two bacardi breezers.. I think after that you begin to grow up. It's fun being tipsy and it really can liven things up. Paraletic drunk... not so good. And not so attractive. But I really wouldn't have thought that teenagers that are more than a couple of years from 18 do that and on a very regular basis. I mean.. you'd be a bit *****ed if you were finally 18 and hadn't had a sip of anything since. Imagine the chaos of the lightweight drunkards on their birthdays!
I think it's pretty patronising of you to say people are unaware of the risks. When I started drinking for the first time, it would be at the odd party, and not because it was 'rebellious'.. because it was fun.
once you become older it seems childish unless it is a special occasion, and its not grown up
..No. Consuming alcohol isn't childish. Some people that absuse it are stupid.. but it's not an immature thing to do. Thousands of people in Britain will go out on a friday/saturday night to bars and pubs etc. and there's no special occassion then, is there? They've had a hard week at work/college/uni. They want to relax, let their hair down.
Yes I drink every weekend, IF I go to a pub or a party or something like that. Yes I am aware of the risks, and NO.. on the 12th of feb 2006 when I wake up an eighteen year old at last, I will not have the urge to drink less than I did the weekend before!
I really think you've got the wrong end of the stick here.

Ok first a cold beer on a warm day is great im 14 btw and do you really think that suddenly when you become 18 your body can handle more alcohol thats rubbish the amount of alcohol taken should be in propartion to your size and mass - not age. If you are 17 and 362 days old your not worse at handling alcohol than some one of age 18 and 1 day ! I drink moderatly frequently lol look at positives you have a great time, your relaxed and for one night your happy. It isnt against the law to drink in your home under the age of 18 and your aloud 1 alcoholic drink with a meal from 14 onwards so clearly the goverment doesnt agree with your facts - it is more worried about the anti social problems that comes with alochol if the law is lowered. If people want to drink alcohol there should be no reason to stop them - and you appear to know very little on the subject - you should try something let your hair down have some fun :) you only live once (unless ur hindu) :p

all them points can happen when your 18 as well though, even if it is more likely when your underage, i think more people are likely to drink more when they are 18+. personally, alcohol isnt a big deal to me, i drink occasionally at parties and get drunk (but not often), but its not like im drinking every minute of every day.

its not quite that simple as it can only be wine etc and with a meal "/
PLus your age has no effect what so ever on how you handle alchol, it all depends on how devolped you are, how big you are etc, not everny one reaches machrity at the same time "/

becuse of the meal the effects of the alchole would be greatly redueced, in comparison to on an empty stomach, but i see your point, to teh wine actaly being more alcholic than the beer etc "/
Well, my mother was an alcoholic so i definatley no the risks and how it destroys people but that wont stop me drinking. Im not an alcoholic. The Facts youve bought up apply to ALCOHOLICS, people who wake up in the morning and reach for the bottle. Not your average teenager who drinks now and then. Like i said before, i no how much alcohol i can take, i never drink on an empty stomache, i avoid vodka as it makes me violent and argumentitive! I also make sure im with people i trust and i no wont be getting wrecked themselves and will look after me. Also if one of my friends is being sick and has drunk to much, i will go out of my way and help, as i usually dont get wrecked, just get tipsy.

yea but the cumlative liver damage, and increased risk of canser negate that benifit, plus teh benifit comes from a certain chemical in the grape skin, wich is in very low qunty within wine, and considering wine conatisn alchol, which is more posionus than arsnic, its not a particaly useful benifit, from a tiny imrpovemnt to blood circultion

Actully liver damage only occurs in large quantitys. Cancer increased from a small amount of wine? Were are you getting this infomation? A starter is that in large quantitys it gives you alchohol poisoning hense the poison. Your body can withstand it. Also If it was as dangerois as arsnic then it would kill you in a short while. If you want to know where I got this infomation I got it from m dad in the NHS hospital as a heart and lung specialist(short way of saying).
No offence but Mentor you need to fix up on your spelling. :) Sorry!

Alchol is dilute in drink, pure alchold would kill you in a matter of minutes. even tiny amounts cause damage to your liver, the live can regeniate small damge but every day the cumlative effect can build up, cuaisng problems. Not at the same pace as binge drinking would be still it actaly doing you harm, even thogh minor, not good.

Otherwise, I don't think money should be spent to attempt to stop some underagers from drinking occasionally.

Just becuase they don't want help NOW, doesn't mean 10 years from now when they're seeing what they've done to their bodies, that they won't.
