Well, Invent and me are going to create a sort of "MySpace 2.0"
which I don't want to give away too much information,
but we need some names!
Post your name ideas below for the site :)

Something different?
Thanks :) thats rather, urm different?
Something original and unique, I wouldnt use things like yourblogs.com etc they sound boring, a completely random name, theres a list of available 4 letter .coms somewhere on the forum try to find it
EDIT: There you go http://www.dailydomain.us/downloads/4letter10.txt
Change the 10 to another number to view another list, many are now unavailable but some still arent.

Why would anyone join facebook, bebo, habbo, habbox, runescape, google, cokemusic, life, when there is myspace?

Why would anyone join facebook, bebo, habbo, habbox, runescape, google, cokemusic, life, when there is myspace?
Because they already have a reasonably large install base in the case of bebo and facebook.
How can you compare a forum or google or life (***) to myspace?
And habbo and cokemusic are totally different to myspace, they're games. Same with runescape.
Dentafrice,
14-07-2007, 07:35 PM
Its an example.
Okay this, why would yahoo have a search engine? Why not go to google. Same with all the rest.
Its an example.
Okay this, why would yahoo have a search engine? Why not go to google. Same with all the rest.
The games are aimed at different audiences to eachother eg habbo and runescape and cokemusic is a promotional tool. Yahoo was formed resonably early on but If a search engine was founded know, however good it would almost certinaly fail. If you come up with some unique ideas for 'myspace 2.0' it could succeed, perhaps aim it at a specific audience?

Myspot seems too predictable, also the template above, it doesn't have a oomph to it, it's nice, but not for a social networking site. Maybe 16 random profiles shown, an advert and if users are logged in a "People who have similar interests to you:" where is grabs your interests, finds them in other profiles and shows random profiles.

Also, Myspace is web 2.0
Web 2.0, a phrase coined by O'Reilly Media (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/O%27Reilly_Media) in 2003 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2003)[1] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Web_2.0#_note-0) and popularized by the first Web 2.0 conference in 2004[2] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Web_2.0#_note-graham) , refers to a perceived second generation (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Generation) of web-based communities and hosted services (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Web_service) — such as social-networking sites (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Social_networking_sites), wikis (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wiki) and folksonomies (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Folksonomy) — which facilitate collaboration and sharing between users. O'Reilly Media titled a series of conferences around the phrase, and it has since become widely adopted.

Take it your having it for people without there javascript turned on?

Most users have JS turned on, if not go to boring ol static myspace :0

Do you think people will leave their myspace's and bebos because you use javascript?
Just to point out, Im working on a project sort of like this. They are doing it as a project for experience not for the users. Next, the Social Networking market isn't a restrictive one, you can have a profile on Bebo, MySpace, them all if you want, and as they are all free, it doesn't cost you anything.

A good design for a Social Networking site is hard to do, it would look very good on a portfolio if done right.

How not? Is there a law prohibiting people from running a Social Networking Site if they do not have an office? Is there a law prohibiting people from running a Social Networking Site if they are under the age of 18?
Surely they dont have to be in an office to work professionally? If you say they do, that means that all those people who work from home don't work as professionals?
If someone works from home, they will (more than likely) use a IM Client to talk to members of their team who may also work at home. I will give you an example of this, Headscape have a "Virtual Office" where they do not travel into work everyday, They work from home and they still work professionally.
I don't understand where you have gotten the notion that you have to be over the age of 18 to start this kind of website, as long as they abide to the Data Protection Act they would be fine.

Actually almost all self contained major websites have been the work of single people, often working from home and done as a hobby, as the sites popularty has grown, staff and team members have come along, but that doesn't mean they start with them. They build up, why have a team when only 6 of so people are going to be useing your site? its uttery pointless and a waste of time and money. Websites employ people when they need to, they dont start out as massive corporations o.0

You dont NEED to have an office for anything. I hate to mention runescape, but i will,

Its not? If you read the history's of a number of prominent entreniors, you may may find some disagreement with that statment.
Plus i really dont see what ethical issue there is in it? the main problems today is all the legal burocrasy
